The Wintrean Troll is commonly found throughout the grand region; it is one of the most common creatures. They often enjoy to find shelter in caves, and can be seen sacrificing animals, or indeed humans to their gods. Troll society is primitive and violent, and often poses a threat to the more advanced societies that surround them. Their flimsy weapons are often rust-coated, and if any caused injuries are not swiftly treated, they may cause gangrenous infections. Their primitive tribal communities often require that once a young Troll reaches the age of fourteen, their ears are pointed and bound with leather straps. To them, this symbolises that they are reaching adulthood. There is not much else to comment on these simple beings, other than, if you are traversing the wilds of Wintreath, listen for the hoot of an ivory horn, for this heralds the arrival of the Trolls.

This small but feisty cuttlefish can be found walking along the seafloor on arms and fins—a rarer mode of transit for these otherwise adept swimmers. The cuttlefish's flat body allows it to live and hover near the ocean bottom where it hibernates. Every month or so, the cuttlefish can be seen chipping at the ice, trying to extract any trapped plankton or bacteria, and after it finds a sufficient amount, it resumes it's hibernation under and around the sand.

Oh, and BTW, how do you make such impressive art for your signature section? ???
-
Either google or some skill with image editors :p
I like these trolls, especially the mention of their having some basic communal civilisation thing going on. Are they a threat to every human that encounters them, or can they be peaceable as well?
-
They can understand basic human terms, and if you spoke to them slowly and carefully enough, you could probably make them understand that you pose no threat to them, although they may still turn on you for their own benefit (eg. food [flesh]). Bribing them not to hurt you would also be an option, like if you presented them with armour or food.
-
Nice to see someone interested in Lore. HOWEVER it would be Wintrean Troll :P
(Also could you put your Signature in a spoiler it messes with the layout a bit for me)

I think i've made the changes suggested correctly?

You did :P

Iiiinteresting. I like this quite a bit, would you mind too much if they were used in the House RP as background NPC type characters? A bit like goblins in a pen and paper RPG game or similar :)

i would certainly not mind! :D

Nothing like cuttlefish. :P

The Wintrean Wolf is a very feral wolf that wont hesitate to attack. They form groups of over thirty Wintrean wolfs and all hunt together. When one of the wolfs catch some food or meat if the wolf that found the meat is very weak and not very helpful they will take their food but if the weak wolf doesn't want to let go of the meat because they want it for them selves the other wolfs will most likely eat him/her as well.

How big are these wolves? They sound rather intimidating as it is!
-
The wolves are about the size of two metres long and one meter tall.
-
Sizeable creatures, then. I like it! Are they winter creatures (found in the north of Wintreath) or are there variations/different breeds that inhabit further south where it's warmer?
Also, would you mind if I used these wolves as beasts in the House RP that'll be starting soon? It'd be great to have some content created by other users involved, especially something like these wolves which'd be group event NPCs or similar :)
-
There are some variation in the wolves but the ones in the south seem to be smaller than the ones I the north.
And I would not mind if you used them in your roleplay.

Smaller, right, probably more nimble too? Do they still hunt in such large packs or are the southern breeds more inclined towards a more tight-knit family unit?
Thanks! I'll let you know when it begins and ask if I need to know anything about the wolves :)
-
Your Welcome and in the south they are more of a smaller family.

The Rainix
The Rainix is a larger, majestic bird resembling a phoenix, hence part of the name. They are a soft combination of the colors of the rainbow...giving them the other part. In fact, their tail feathers have a red tip, and gradually shift through each of the colors continuously throughout the day. Depending on a Rainix's mood, their bodies can either shift to a darker or lighter tint - darker when they're in a more angry mood, lighter if they're in a good mood, and a neutral tone in between. They can also shift to other colors depending on different types of moods, such as looking more faded if they're depressed, or more vibrant and beautiful if they're happy or they're in love.
Rainixes are large enough to ride, though they're choosy about who they let ride them. But they can go great distances, and are comfy to sit on when they allow it. Try to hop on one when it's angry or doesn't want you as a rider, it'll be the last mistake you make.
Like a normal phoenix, when a Rainix dies it'll burst into flames and be reborn from the ashes. Outside of their look, this is the only other trait that they share in common.

Arachnosites
Arachnosites are one of the most terrifying, deadliest creatures that one could encounter in the world. At a glance, they seem incredibly harmless given the fact that they're both tiny and easy to kill if one sees them. However, arachnosites are both smart and quick, and chances are they won't be seen until it's too late.
When an arachnosite successfully finds and climbs onto a victim, they make their way to an area of the body where the victim's skin is exposed. With animals, this is obviously an easy feat whereas for others, it's a little trickier. Once they find that area, they burrow into the victim's body and make their way to the blood stream. Being small enough, they attach themselves to a traveling blood cell and begin sucking it dry. As they're doing so, they also inject a type of fluid back inside that discolors the cell, until it finally bursts. When it does, hundreds of new arachnosites are released as they continue the cycle with each blood cell, in what seems like an infinite repetition until the victim finally dies, and the arachnosites inside of them eventually die as well without any of the blood cells to continue to sustain them.
Arachnosites have a short lifespan, and don't travel in the light for too long. They prefer dark places or will hide under piles of items, such as a pile of logs. Unlike most spiders, arachnosites don't make webs, and they never make themselves known since they're always on the hunt. But if you're traveling in a dark place or see yourself close to a large pile, you'd best be wary, for there might be an arachnosite or two lurking nearby.
If you see a dead body near such an area or a bit away from it, take a quick check of the victim's mouth. Normally after they've finished feeding, the arachnosites will attempt to leave the victim through that area, and most will die before they make it out. If you see something black near the victim's mouth, chances are you're looking at a small heap of dead arachnosites, and there may be one or more nearby depending on the area.

Libbits
Libbits are smaller (rabbit sized, hence the name), bouncy creatures that resemble a little lion with the mane. They are playful, nervous, and mischievous little creatures that enjoy acting like they're fierce creatures to others. If one were to approach a libbit, it would quickly run away and hide, as they're wary about anyone bigger coming into contact with them. However, when one isn't looking, a libbit will instantly run up and pounce at the person, nipping them once, and then running away again in delight.
Libbits are herbivores, eating only the grass as well as certain other plants that they find. They have the normal lifespan of a smaller animal, being able to live for up to 30 years. While libbits in the wild are extremely wary of people, there have been many that have been successfully tamed. They're quite a common pet for people to have given their playful nature.

Nimbus Whales
Nimbus whales are, as the name suggests, whales that are somehow able to travel the very skies as if they were an ocean. There are very few of these creatures in existence, with it being assumed that there were only 5 in the world at a time. They tend to travel in different parts of the world, enjoying the sky and occasionally collecting clouds on their back, giving them the Nimbus part of their name. One whale in fact carries an entire temple on its back, though it's unknown how such a feat came to be. This particular whale can be tricky to find, since it enjoys floating through the clouds themselves at times, giving them a cover.
These whales are harmless to others who come across them, wishing and wanting only to travel the skies with no other purpose. The only harm they present is in their large size and therefore possibility of colliding unintentionally into things smaller than they are. If one were to approach a Nimbus Whale in a flying machine, one would need to be particularly careful since they whales will change direction in the snap of a finger...and therefore the snap of your machine if you're not careful.

The Mountain Giant.
The Mountain Giant resides in the northern mountains. these beasts dwell at the top of the highest peaks, and protected the other mountain creatures. like all mountain giants they are as the pine forests that grow across the mountain slopes.
They also have claws that can break through the biggest boulders of rock

Nymphet
In Wintrean folklore, these lights are believed to be spirits of the dead, supernatural beings which attempt to lead travelers to their demise.
Sometimes the lights are believed to be the spirits of stillborn children, flitting between heaven and hell, a type of spirit which brings with it many negative connotations.
There are numerous types of Nymphet, each with its own special ability, like hypnosis, or foreseeing the future.
They can be purple, blue, green, white, or gold, but every few thousand years, they may fluctuate colours, depending on their thoughts and feelings

Harpy Pegasi are the most common of the genus 'Harpy'. They are small and streamlined (About the size of a cow), and fly through the skies over Wintreath, and are often mistaken for Harpy Gorgons, scaring the Wintreans. They keep among themselves, and are often seen chasing their favourite meal, Wintrean Albatrosses. Sometimes, they mate in the sky, spinning around in circles. They always fly in V formations, which creates uplift for the Harpy Pegasi behind.
Harpy Gorgon
(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e7/Kronosaurus.jpg)
These are the cousins of the Harpy Pegasi, and almost three times the size. They are vicious loners, and often attempt to hunt and kill Nimbus whales. A common rumor is that there used to be hundreds of Nimbus whales, and the Harpy Gorgons (Often known as 'Sky Piranhas') killed all but five of them. If you ever see a lone Harpy flying above you, run... It may be a Gorgon.

Carniboars(https://historymaniacmegan.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/erymanthian_boar.jpg)
The carniboar is a giant, powerful animal that roams the plains of Wintreath. They are carnivores, and they eat anything that they can kill. Carniboars hunt in packs of 2 to 3, which is plenty to take on most prey. Although they are pretty strong, they can't swim, only making sea creatures that are close to the shore in danger of being eaten by these beasts.
Carniboars have one main "predator," humans. They are commonly hunted as sport by Wintreans. One adult carniboar can provide a hearty meal for a whole family, and their furs are commonly used in most clothing, while their tusks are used as parts of fine jewelry.

Many beasts were dominate of different parts of Wintreath, such as lions, jaguars, and tigers. Throughout the ages, though, times became harsh on these beasts. As Wintreath became colder, the dominate beasts struggled to survive in colder, harsher climates, and were forced to adapt.
The Sabertooth Lion was the result of the lions having to adapt. As the savannas that they used to live in changed to forests, their fur has changed to black and red, allowing them to blend in with the shadows and leaves. Their teeth had adapted be able to cut through the other animal's thick coats, helping them kill prey more easily. To this day, there are few left, but these animals are some of the most deadly, and they have no hesitation to kill.

The Mountain Jaguar was the result of the jaguar having to adapt. Since the rain forests it once lived in had been destroyed by the cold, the jaguars needed to move elsewhere for shelter. This place was the mountains. They adapted to have thicker fur, to survive in the freezing temperatures of the peaks. They slept in and raised their young in the coves that could be found on the sides of the mountains. These jaguars do hunt whatever they can find up in their habitat, and attack anybody or anything that would intrude on their territory, making the Wintreans give them the title of "The Mountain Guardians."

The Snow Tiger was the result of the tigers having to adapt. Instead of finding a place where they could be dominate, they stayed in the plains, where they always were, facing the tougher competition of stronger animals. These animals adapted to having white fur, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings. This gave them an upper hand against the stronger animals, allowing their packs to get the element of surprise against their enemies.

Rhinotaur(https://paigeconnellyillustration.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/mm-sketch-3.jpg)
Rhinotaurs are peaceful herbivores who live in the Great Wintrean Plains, although they still are tough. Their actions are simple, really. When in danger, these animals ram their enemies to defend themselves. When in peace, they eat and raise their young. These simple beasts can be easily befriended by Wintreans, if they treat them well, that is.

The Great Wintrean Termite
Long before the first Wintrean feet trod the snowy peaks of the northern reaches, the Great Wintrean Termite erected its mighty edifices of ice and stone. These large insects burrow deep into the earths crust for warmth, absorbing the subterranean warmth in dense rocky plates on their underbellies. This warmth proves vital to the survival of the termite as it carries rocks, debris, dead termites, and the remains of prey to the icy Wintrean surface. Once deposited, ice is melted and reformed around the deposited materials to form enormous mounds, often mistaken, to the hiker's misfortune, for large hills or even mountains.
A eusocial animal, the Great Wintrean Termite was once thought to be multiple species. It is now known that it is divided up into at least three castes - warriors, workers, and flyers.
Measuring between 2 and 3 meters in length, warrior termites (pictured) are ferocious adversaries who will engage any threat to the mound by chewing, biting, slashing and trampling with their enormous mandibles and powerful spined legs. Remorseless killers, once deployed from the mound's core a warrior will never return - it will rampage until its warm core has cooled. Likely due to its near brainlessness, it would not remember its way back through the labyrinthine tunnels even if it had the presence of mind to save some warmth for the return journey.
Not to be discounted is the worker caste, which are much smaller than warriors, about 1 meter at most. Clever creatures with abnormally large brains, they serve as guides for other castes, able to memorize the many twists and turns of their enormous home. They use their powerful mandibles to chew through rock and ice, carry heavy loads, and carry hot stones to melt ice and form tunnels. Consummate cowards, workers will flee into the mound's depths upon sensing any creature not of the mound. Fear not for the worker however, it will soon return with warriors at its back. Intruders will find themselves cunningly surrounded with endless waves of glistening termite bodies in the deep dark, likely never having seen the worker that first spied them.
The strangest and most elusive of the castes is the flyers. True to their name, they possess enormous 4 meter wings compared to their 2 meter length, able to convey them rapidly through the air with tremendous speed. Every so often, the mostly inert mound will erupt into furious activity, with warriors and workers crawling over the outside of the mound. Desperate to escape, flyers are gently held to the ground by the other castes. Only those that are able to struggle free are allowed to escape to fly to destinations unknown. Thought to have something to do with the creation of new mounds, sighting of a flying termite is infrequent and is considered to be a bad omen.
Clearly a dangerous species, the intrepid adventurer of the northern climes of Wintreath should plan their routes carefully to avoid known mounds. Before embarking upon a hill or mountain, one should observe it carefully for signs of termite activity. Large termite mounds take on a characteristic tower-like structure that is recognizable from a distance. Mining camps near termite mounds are a good place to camp, as they are well-protected from termites by magical wards and specially designed fortifications.
Iron and steel made from the thick metallic underbellies of warrior termites is considered among the finest materials used in the crafting of weapons and armor. Ordinarily, and understandably given the termites ferocious and irascible nature, this material is obtained from dead warriors found on or near the surface of a mound. Knowledge of this material has spread far and wide however, and this has spawned interest in the material from extra-Wintrean locales. Several projects intended to gather the material en-masse are under way.
Wintrean scientists, with access to mounds abandoned during long summers, theorize that at least one more caste exists in the deepest tunnels with the largest chambers. Legends of the so-called termite "Queen" have attracted adventurers of all kinds from all over the world.
As for this zoologist, I recommend all caution be taken when attempting to venture deeper into the lairs of the Great Wintrean Termite. Ordinarily, termites are predominately peaceful creatures, always reacting, never acting. On occasion however, they have been known to erupt from their mound in enormous numbers, only to march to a distant location and disappear once more into the ground. Such a diaspora into a populated area would be an unmitigated disaster.
Call me a coward, but my youth is behind me and the wisdom of my age says this: Do not dig deeper. Leave them alone.

These mammoths are the largest in Wintreath, the biggest males sometimes reaching seven metres tall. They live in the crags between the different mountains of the Huggtanders, and are fiercely territorial, killing anybody within a one-mile radius. After excessive hunting for meat during hardships and wars, they are all but extinct.

The Wintrean Cricket is a small insect (Around 1-3 cm long) that lives to the south of Wintreath, in the swamps and skirting the edges of the desert. Its venom is deadly poisonous, and if you see one, it is highly recommended that you steer clear.

The inguenp are native to the northernmost reaches of Wintreath. They are four to six feet tall, and often hunt seals and rabbits. Their closest relatives are the terrapnids. They often hide between ice floes, and attack passing trade caravans.
-
Terrapnid
(https://cdn.pbrd.co/images/GDCtkXl.png)
The terrapnid is a twelve to sixteen foot beast, and uses its large beak to kill sharks and, in many cases, people. The terrapnid lives most commonly along the coast of the huggtanders (in Wintreath), and are also common in the Far North. Many towns and cities such as Hercke have experienced 'pest' issues from these birds, as they often race to local farms to kill oxen, and tear out large chunks of flesh from their corpses.

Snow Wolves:
Snow wolves appear to simply be especially large wolves, until you get close. They can speak any tongue, understand any language. They have a similar intelligence level to a human, and live in packs. Some choose to follow humans, elves, Draconians, and all manner of intelligent beings. On rare occasions, an entire pack will choose to follow a single individual. They are kind, benevolent, and understanding, but, harm one of them, and they nearly go rabid. There have been unconfirmed reports of people seeing Snow wolves turning into humanoids, but those are only from those who have spent way too much time alone. So it doesn't really happen, right?

This is a majestic bird known as a Winter Eagle, a loving play on what sounds like "Wint. Regal" when said quickly, which actually accurately describes this bird.
The Winter Eagle's feathers are covered in an unmeltable snowy glaze, giving them a nice glimmer from a distance as well as leaving them cold to the touch. They are easy to approach as they are normally not skiddish, and in fact are companions to many people within Wintreath (and are a main source for sending letters since they are both reliable and have a unique sense that can easily track the letter's recipient). While their talons are sharp, they have a unique way of curling them when perched on one's shoulders where their companion would never have to worry about them stabbing into their arm or scratching them. However, when hunting prey, the Winter Eagle will use their sharp talons to catch their prey as if they were naught but a marshmallow on a stick before eating them.
Their diet normally consists of fish as well as smaller wildlife such as squirrels.

I present to you 4 new insects for Wintreath. Spoiler alert: Two of these insects are jerks.

The Frostfly
The Frostfly is a type of butterfly that can be found in some of the colder parts of Wintreath. Because of its pure snow white coloring, it's been argued that this beautiful insect is actually made of pure snow. However, because nobody has come to an agreement on what the black contrast of its wings would be in that case, it's still a subject up for debate since nobody has managed to catch one of these creatures.
The Frostflies can be found around the daytime, normally flying around and visiting the various patches of winter roses and snow tulips...their favorite type of spot. During the night time, they like to travel as a group to the nearby snowy trees, where they rest along it behind the snowy leaves and branches.
Beeterfly

The Beeterfly
As the name suggests, the beeterfly is a cross between a bee and a butterfly. It has the wings and almost entire body shape of a butterfly including the antennas, but also most notably has a stinger much like a bee...as well as the small mouths with sharp teeth much like a wasp. As one may expect, you can normally find beeterflies around the various types of flowers around Wintreath, making the non-frozen/snowy ones their choice of area.
Beeterflies are very territorial and travel in groups. If anyone other than a Beeterfly approaches their area, they will give a very distinct warning buzzing sound along with quick flaps of their wings to warn the imposing intruder to leave. If their warnings go ignored, they will attack as a group, stinging and biting the intruder with their small but sharp fang-like teeth until the intruder inevitably runs off.

Betterfly
Legends say that if one were to find a nest of these creatures, one would be guaranteed to live a very long and healthy life filled with true love, riches, and the most exceptional life until their last breath.
Whoever started that legend was a jerk.
Betterflies are some of the most appealing looking of the butterflies, but also the most mischievous...and among their victims they're more known the "Loki" of butterflies. Don't let their prismatic colors fool you, as that's part of their ruse...and there's nothing a Betterfly enjoys more than getting you enthralled by its magical looking colors.
On the contrary, Betterflies are notoriously known for leading the victims of their pranks to areas that are teeming with danger. Suddenly find yourself in a grove surrounded by an angry swarming Beeterflies? Did you somehow wake from their magical lull to find yourself in the middle of a den of sleeping snow tigers? Then you probably found yourself caught up in a prank of the Betterfly. There's nothing they enjoy more than luring you to a field of dangerous wildlife and then brazenly flying off, as their name suggests.
So do yourself a favor: if you see what looks to be a glint of prismatic colors nearby, you "better fly" away.
Snowbee

As the name suggests, these are bees that can be found in the more snowy areas of Wintreath, widely considered to actually be made of pure snow themselves. Though as one has never been caught (though many have been stung by it's icy sharp stinger), it's never been actually proven.
Making nests of snowy hives up in the corner of trees as well as other cold corners, Snowbees tend to find themselves helping Frostflies with pollinating the more unique cold flowers of Wintreath, their favorites being winter roses, frost daisies, crystal irises, as well as their favorite...the large prismatic cystal-petal flowers known as the Winter Gems.
In their hives, they are known for making a unique type of delicious ice-blue liquid that's come to be known as Frost Honey. It has a sweet flavor with a slight chill to it, and is used in many types of drinks including the Wintreath Delicacy known as the Winter Hammer Mach II.
Snowbees are much less wary of people than, say, Beeterflies. However, they will defend themselves if they sense that they're in danger, such as being swatted at...or especially if one were to try to take the honey from their hives.
Like regular bees, there are the many worker-drone Snowbees that pollinate the flowers and do most of the work while the Queen Snowbee gives birth to new Snowbees.

The Iranik Viper
The Iranik Viper (pronounced "Ironic") is a common snake found in Wintreath, normally in areas near the water. They're an azure blue snake with what look like bubbles all around them, making them look slightly amusing to those who notice. The Iranik Viper is a harmless snake that will only attack in self defense when it feels cornered. Unlike its cousin, the Ikarin Viper, its bite is harmless and will feel like a slight pinch, and it will usually rub against you afterward as if apologizing for hurting you. They're also known for being both playful and mischievous, and make great pets. However, most people refrain from capturing one, worrying that they may be instead potentially be going after its cousin.

The Ikarin Viper
The Ikarin Viper (pronounced eye-cah-rehn) is an uncommon azure blue snake found in Wintreath that is often mistaken for its cousin, the Iranik Viper. Unlike its cousin, however, the Ikarin Viper is an exceptionally dangerous and deadly creature. One bite from the Ikarin Viper will spell a slow, cold death to its victim with little hope for an antidote. Its venom works its way through the victim's bloodstream, freezing their insides before eventually making its way to the outside. The last place it hits is the victim's heart, finally killing them if they haven't already died from the extreme cold. Much like its cousin, the Ikarin Viper can be very mischievous, and has even often been mistaken as its cousin after emerging from the water with similar bubbles around its body (the Ikarin Viper has no such bubbles normally, which is the only distinguishing factor between the two).

bit late, but do these creatures actually exist in rp?

In the NS region sense, no. What exists is generally up to the nations themselves.
In the World of Wintreath sense, as in Wintreath as an actual continent with towns and whatnot, yes. When the world of Wintreath is used in roleplay, this is basically a guide of what exists in that world.

What you're going to see here and in much of this subforum are going to be loosely connected to the semi-official Wintreath RP setting as established by Weissreich (https://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?topic=1057.0) (map here (https://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?topic=4144.0)), which sees Wintreath as a monarchy in a gearpunk fantasy setting with noble houses and whatnot.
