To everyone who doesn't still watch the news, this may just restart your interest in the goings-on of New Hyperion.
Not much is currently known about what our leaders are up to at the moment because of all the secrecy. It's worse than the Cold War between the US and the USSR all those centuries ago. What we do know about the current situation is that Roen, the son of Prime Minister Ramos, was kidnapped from his home in Fort Bragg by a group of terrorists based within the nation.
Earlier in the week, Majority Leader Isador was found dead in a train wreck caused by an electrical failure in the rail system. At first glance, it seemed that the train wreck was the cause of death, but a closer analysis showed that the Majority Leader was shot in the head hours before the crash. This would look like the work of petty criminals if Isador wasn't opposed to Ramos. Wait, I can't see the difference...
Following this assassination of the Majority Leader, Jarl Aragonn, leader of the Aesir Empire, took a surprise trip to Port Alexandria to meet with Ramos. Their discussion was completely secret, but we assume it had something to do with the declaration of wartime preparation and cookie factories.
Afterwards, the Jarl travelled to Fort Bragg to stay for a while. But upon arrival, Roen was nowhere to be found. Nothing was found on security cameras, the guards didn't see a thing, and there were no tracks. Responding to the Miricanian border attacks against Colbentielle, Regent Colberius X has ordered the invasion of the Democratic Empire of Science.
This invasion, the product of heightened tensions in New Hyperion caused by the resource depletion of soft chocolate chip cookies, was announced following the revelations that Colbentiellian, and likely Laurentian, agents were behind the kidnapping of Roen Ramos, son of the Miricanian prime minister. For those not keeping up with the news, Miricano fired missiles upon Laurentian aircraft approaching Miricano airspace, which Colbentiellian missiles intercepted under the grounds that they had entered Colbentiellian airspace. Prime Minister Ramos used this incident as casus belli, launching attacks across the Miricano-Colbentielle border. Responding to these attacks, Colbentielle has released videos of Roen Ramos being held hostage by their agents.
In an official press release following the sending of surrender terms to Science, the Colbentiellian government revealed a “secret arms deal” between Miricano and Science and that the Democratic Empire “has chosen to ally itself with Miricano.” However, First Consul William Xavier of Science has responded, rejecting the surrender terms and instead framing the deal as a “collaborative research project... to advance the progress of humanity.” Consul Xavier refuted Colbentielle’s accusations of a Miricano-Science alliance, and portrayed the Colbentiellian attack on the Darwin Extremely Large Collider as a terrible atrocity against a university and thus intellectualism.
Despite the moral accusations of Science, it is easy to see that the invasion is a shrewd political move. Science’s territories provide a solid bargaining chip for an anti-Miricano alliance with nations such as Frostmark, and may provide a refuge for Colbentiellians should their homeland fall. Furthermore, with Science’s relatively nonexistent military, the conquest will likely be a cakewalk. Finally, and most importantly, it is rumored that Science is developing super-soft chocolate chip cookies, a valuable asset for any nation.
The Scientific government has declined to comment further on the situation; authorities appear to be disbanding on the fly, likely in preparation for a guerilla war. Oddly, attempts to contact the Colbentiellian government have also failed, with upper government levels appearing to be instituting a communications blackout. Political analysts suspect a coup is being attempted against the Regent, though The Times has been unable to confirm these analyses. How this international conflict plays out remains to be seen.

But these things don't change too much with things on the large scale

From what I know, being a citizen means you are able to vote for and run for the Underhusen, who make our laws. Plus, you are able to discuss upcoming laws in the Citizens' Platform. You also get to have your Wintreath nation displayed under your username.
I'm not so intrested in politics and such, so it might be better to ask someone who's been here for longer. I'm usually just hanging out in the Dumping Grounds.

"Emoticon" is a portmanteau of emotion and icon. On the other hand, "emoji" is a Japanese loanword originally meaning "pictograph", from e (絵, "picture") + moji (文字, "character").

However, I disagree regarding the informal/formal aspects. The connotations from emoji and emoticon for me have probably developed from the context around which I encountered each, so it's absolutely incorrect. But that's just how I read it now.
Besides, I used "emoji" in a sentence without anything to separate it from the preposition, and using "emoticon" messes with the random mid-sentence rhyming.

Emoji just seems like a funner word, all things considered! =D

In french too we sometime use our "you're welcome" sarcastically, but that doesn't mean it's rude to say it when someone said "Thank you".
It's the (If speaking not writting) tone you use that define it. If you say "you're welcome" with a smile for me it mean you're happy to have helped me.
So it depend of the context. :)

I had a light blue in October, a teal (I think it's called teal) in November, and a yellow in December. At least, I think I started it in October. I've got a folder sorted out with it, with a different colour theme for each season, and I'm not sure which one I began with anymore. I have put far too much thought into this.

The skin is sweet, and you can eat that raw. The actual fruit inside is quite sour, so depending on taste, you could eat the fruit whole or not eat the inside parts. Either the inside fruit or the entire thing can be used to make honey tea, which is quite soothing for a sore throat. Kumquats can also be preserved in salt (though I would not personally recommend this; my dad did this and it was terrible) or sugar for use later on.

It's because the term in Chinese for mandarin/tangerine is used more generally to refer to orange-colored citrusy fruits, while in English it's the other way around. First time I took the test, my second to last question was "heads or tails?" The next question was "Slytherin or Hufflepuff?" (I picked the 'Puffs).

Never was 100% on which house I belonged in despite finding out about this forum from the Hogwarts region. I wanted to say Ravenpuff, if that was an option.
Gryffindor is right out, I have no bravery, or confidence, or self esteem, or much of anything good to say about myself, and I don't suspect Gryffindors often have to deal with depression. Slytherin isn't right either, I don't think "Hope that nobody secretly hates me or wants to hurt me" counts as much of an ambition, nor would surrendering easily impress Slytherins.
But I think that even if I don't actually have as creative mind as I like to tell myself I have, I'll let others determine that, I do at least appreciate the knowledge and creative ideas of others, so I think that fits in well with Ravenclaw. And I think that I might be too weird for the stereotyped-as-average Hufflepuff, but I think just wanting to make friends and fit in seems like something that might qualify me still.

I know how you feel depression sucks, I'm 23 been depressed for 15 years long time to feel like that, low to no confidence or self esteem IRL got a little more online now thanks to my online friends :P

But looking at the rest of your post, I think you shouldn't sell yourself short. The four houses are a bit more than nerve, wit, just, and drive (http://pottermoreanalysis.tumblr.com/post/29570824705/the-traits-of-the-four-houses-by-request). The colours are a lot more mixed than they appear, so Ravenpuff absolutely works. Furthermore, I am highly doubtful over being "outright excluded" from any house; it's more which one you think fits you.
Plus, Ravenclaw isn't really about creativity; it's more about curiosity, wanting to explore the unknown, finding out what they don't yet know.
Plus, Gryffindor isn't so much about being brave for the sake of it; it's more being passionate and standing up for what and who they believe in.
Plus, Slytherin isn't so much about latching onto a specific ambition; more about "what do other people think of me" and to a greater extent "how will I be remembered?" or "what legacy do I wish to have?"
Plus, Hufflepuff isn't just about being friends with everyone; they do their best to stick to the safe and reliable and avoid starting needless conflicts.
The houses are practically built to strike a chord with people. The hat isn't going to exclude you from what you connect with! And if somehow it does, I'll be willing to set it on fire -- priceless several hundred year artifact or not, if it's being a jerk it doesn't have the right to sit on eleven-year-olds' heads. =D

I'd actually partially disagree with some of your interpretations there. And the Pottermore quiz, IMO, shouldn't be the end of how we assess House traits.

And for Hufflepuff, I've always placed greater emphasis on the loyalty aspect; rather than simply being friendly, Hufflepuffs are good friends, work with others well, achieve great things together, etc.

You have a good point regarding Slytherin. I always saw them as people working to being seen in a particular light, but that does still fit under the umbrella of "ambition." Hm. I'm not fond of that conclusion.
Gryffindor, however, I disagree with. I don't think adventure and the desire to be a hero is a purely Gryffindor thing -- I'd honestly picture that as Slytherin (well, more the "hero" part. The adventure part still holds, but being a hero seems more "ambitious" than "brave" to me). Gryffindor's more the house of passions than heroics, in my opinion, it's just that the former has a tendency to lead into the latter. (And then Harry and every other person in the source material get a hefty bias thanks to all the heroes seeming to come from Gryffindor XD).
With Hufflepuff though, I am strongly biased towards that house so I didn't want to toot my own horn, so to speak. Hufflepuff always ends up reading to me as "Look, we are the house of the good people" for some strange reason. =P Still, I place more emphasis on conflict avoidance/solving than anything else -- though the loyal/friend part is still important.

Since I look for it now, I notice all the time in books in other media, and consider it to be poor writing when the designated antagonists have their "Look at me, I'm being evil!" scenes just to remind you who is good or bad. If the story is well written, that isn't necessary. It's especially bad in far too many movies where the protagonist's morality is questionable, but there is a limited amount of time to establish who the main bad person is, so they have to use that time to go around kicking puppies or something so you don't question at the end if the protagonist was actually the main bad person all along, because at least they were less bad than the antagonist.
It's fortunate that Harry Potter's author started to fix that near the end. Horace Slughorn the good Slytherin and Cormac McLaggen the evil Gryffindor, with no doubt that they still belonged in their respective houses. It was pretty blatant why they suddenly started existing at the same time, but I'm okay with that, it's as if it was a statement of honesty that an error was made and this was a step to correct that.
Unfortunate that those who only watched the movies never found out that many Slytherins fought against Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts in the end.

Besides, I'm in it for the delicious world building and stealthy foreshadows. I'll take some antagonistic designation if I can have that. Especially since I can easily shift from "ew the author is biased" to "ew the character is biased." He was eleven, for goodness sake!
Regarding the "hey lookit me" scenes in general, they do have their place. Show versus tell is very difficult to balance, after all.
You can always casually have the "bad guy' say some lines that hints that when they say "edit line three" they mean "forge evidence bwah ha ha." But, there is always the risk that people don't pick up on it and take it as foreshadowing after the reveal instead of a noen sign label of THIS ONE IS THE BAD GUY and the reveal was just them being a bit more obvious. And then there's the risk that people abruptly put the character into Leather Pants because they can easily ignore or excuse those neon signs. Granted, the latter happens anyway.
Or, you could outright tell the reader "The chanceller was evil, of course, but the King didn't agree and the common folk too concerned witu day-to-day life to care." But that's telling, that's "bad writing," and people want you to prove it. And so, kicking puppies ensue.

They have greatly increased the Iffe-expectancy of those of us who live in "advanced" countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human being to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in "advanced" countries.The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.Wirtlich?
2. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological sutfering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy.
3. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later.
4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can't predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the economic and technological basis of the present society.
5. In this article we give attention to only some of the negative developments that have grown out of the industrial-technological system. Other such developments we mention only briefly or ignore altogether. This does not mean that we regard these other developments as unimportant. For practical reasons we have to confine our discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which we have something new to say. For example, since there are well-developed environmental and wilderness movements, we have written very little about environmental degradation or the destruction of wild nature, even though we consider these to be highly important.

I remembered that a long time ago I played Final Fantasy 6. This was back when it was called 3. Which is important because has since been re-translated, and this no longer applies to the most recent version.
There is a enemy called "Allo Ver". It is an undead enemy. Fitting, because it is a play on "All Over". I guess they did not like it though, they changed it to "Death Warden" later.
Apparently that unconsciously stuck with me. I saw another name that ended in "over" and read it in a similar way. That is why I read "taulover" as "it's all over" instead of "tau lover" for however long I was a part of this region. Because of a single encounter in Final Fantasy 6 two decades earlier.

Wintreath is short for "winter wreath". I should say that again with colors to make it obvious: Wintreath is short for "winter wreath". The T is in the first part. So I have always said it as WINT-reeth. So I can't answer that poll because the correct option is not there.
