The missing 'you' in the first sentence was a typo–said it in my head, but it didn't get typed. But using the formal 'Sie', rather than the informal 'du,' is something one does when addressing a stranger, or a person with whom they are not well acquainted. Germans get quite upset when people forget that rule. But I'm not a native speaker, as you noticed. I learned during school, but never got a chance to really speak it since it's very rarely spoken where I live.Yeah Ik (I am actually learning German in school :P ). While I understand the usage and the reason behind it, for me I don't mind the informal du if someone wishes to use it.
