Hello, and welcome to Wintreath's first game of 40 questions! Like a normal game of 20 questions, a person can choose between an animal/person, place, or object. Every question asked will be in the form of a yes/no question, and the person answering can answer with "Yes," "No," or "I don't know." Lying is not allowed in this game, so if someone asks you a question, keep it truthful.
The way it'll start is I'll be the first to have a specific thing in mind. Players will ask their questions, and the person who guesses correctly will be the next to continue this round. Keep in mind that all questions asked will count as one each. That means that if you ask a question, and then someone else asks one, and then another, that will still count as 3 questions. This being the case, instead of it being a game of 20 questions, it will be doubled to 40.
Sound like fun? Well let's start!
You may begin your questions.
-
Is it commonly found in houses?
-
Is it alive?
Also, dont you typically have to specify what it is? Like is it an animal or a thing or what? And those dont count, those where technical questions.
-
Those are traditionally one or two of the 40 questions... You know nothing at the start...
-
Those are traditionally one or two of the 40 questions... You know nothing at the start...
Really? I guess I've been playing it wrong for years.

Really? I guess I've been playing it wrong for years.
Eh, that's how I've always played it... And I've played a lot... Got like 7 siblings... Or six... One way or another...
Buuuuut to get back on track.
Has a majority of it ever been alive?
-

Also, dont you typically have to specify what it is? Like is it an animal or a thing or what? And those dont count, those where technical questions.
I forgot to respond directly to this question: Normally, those fall into the first question, depending on who asks. I've already given an idea of what three specific outlying categories it could be, so you just have to figure out which of the three...and more specifically what it is within the category that you guessed.

And now it is your turn to be the answerer, Evelynx. :) Remember that it can be a person/animal, place, or thing.
-
The thing is a city.
The city is alive to a greater or lesser degree depending on what day it is.
The city is in a state that borders Mississippi, but isn't in Alabama.
Therefore, the city is in Louisiana.
The first letter of the city falls between N and T, inclusive (Meaning it counts both N and T.. sorry I didn't clarify that)
There is a space in the name of the city.

That's how you guessed it? :P
I'm sure some of it was tricky. Some of it was tricky for me to answer!
I couldn't say it was neither alive nor dead, because there's many ways to define something being "alive"
In a city like New Orleans' case, it's "alive" when there's festivals or events going on. But since those don't happen all the time, it really depends on the day...aka if there's an event that day or not. :P
Maps of the city may be commonly found in houses, but I figured that would confuse people if I went with that, so I said no. :P
And the city itself isn't aware of its surroundings, but the people in it essentially are considered part of the city, and they are.
And technically, I did say that one of the categories was "place" at the beginning. :P
-
Yeah those clues were enough for me to narrow it down to New Orleans or New Iberia, and I couldn't think of a way in which New Iberia could be considered to be more alive on certain days than others. Also, who has ever heard of New Iberia?
-
Certainly not me.
Anyways, now it's your turn to pick something (remember, person/animal, place, or thing), and I'll start with the traditional first question:

*Clocks aren't commonly found in kitchens (unless you count the stove/microwave), but someone may put one in it.

Since the old 40 Question thread has fallen into disarray and this can be a fun game I thought I would try rebooting it.
Questions will be answered in yes, no, sort of, and variations of those statements.
The one who correctly guesses the word chooses the next word or can choose someone else to choose a new word.
I already have a word in mind so ask away.
-
Is it a living thing?
-
Question 1
Is it a living thing?
No. But living things are related and sometimes mentioned in this.

Is it larger than a breadbox?
Also you could've necroposted the old thread. If @Kane lives is fine with it, perhaps @Sapphiron could merge the two threads? Or not, if you don't want.
-
Question 2
Is it larger than a breadbox?
After checking Google Images to figure out what a breadbox is. Most of the time, yes.
Also you could've necroposted the old thread. If @Kane lives is fine with it, perhaps @Sapphiron could merge the two threads? Or not, if you don't want.
That would require an explanation of what necroposting is. But I probably would be okay with it if it simply involves merging the two topics or locking the old one.

What I meant was that you could've just posted in the previous thread. But yeah, now my suggestion is to merge the two threads.

That would be okay with me.

Given up?
-
I have.
My best guess so far was religion. It references people. Children shouldn't have it. It's not electronic. However, you said it's not dangerous, so that can't be it.
And then the topics got merged, which I don't think was a good idea, because now it's not obvious where this started, and I have information from two years ago confusingly placed right before where this restarted recently.
And who even knows what a bread box is. Do they keep bread in boxes in other countries? We don't do that here. We use cheap plastics that that are later used to pollute the ocean. So I don't know how big a bread box is and don't feel like asking another size question using an object that would be common in most countries.

It's kinda a pre-Internet meme.

Game of Thrones
...something NSFW that happens to fit very well with the hints so far.
A guitar
Europe
Middle Earth
The concept of time
Braces
Libertarianism
-
It is not any of those things.
I am guessing that you all have given up so I will give the answer.
I was thinking of the TV show Grimm.
-
I generally believe that 20 questions are plenty, but I'll go with this for now. I'll try to go with something that is likely that everyone has heard of it. I've already thought of something, so ask away!
(I'll have the setting to get notified when a reply is made to this topic on, but I might not be able to always respond quickly. And I'll be sleeping for the next 8 hours or so, so I won't be able to answer questions until afterward)

Is it Physics?
:( yeah
As soon as you asked if it was related to math, I was doomed.
I hoped that comment about movement would throw you off. I also hoped you would stick to physical objects instead of ideas.
-
I got thrown off by the kinesiology at first but then after looking up what a natural science is and thinking of Newton's laws I realized it would probably be physics once I found out that was a natural science.
-
I will pass the torch on to any volunteers for this one. :)
-
I was going to guess kinematics lol
Edit:

kinesiology is a natural science too
There's four types of science:
formal science: theoretical stuff like math, theoretical computer science, etc.
natural science: basically what you'd usually think of as "science", esp. hard science
social science: about people and stuff
applied science: engineering stuff

Mk, I've got one. Guess away. :D

4. Is it an animal?

5. Is it an autotroph?
Edited from is it an invertebrate to is it an autotroph.

Shouldn't you wait to see if it's an animal first before asking if it's an invertebrate?

That's an oddly specific question, considering that nearly all plants are autotrophs and we already know that our answer isn't one

I realize now this was a super specific question, so it's probably really hard, so I'll give you a hint. You asked, mathy, if it was an animal, and it is not, but it is in the Animal Kingdom. My apologies, guys.
-
...That's an interesting definition of "animal" that you have there. Most definitions I see make Animalia by definition the same as the set of species known as animals.
And at the borders of these kingdoms, domains, etc. the lines get very blurry, depending on which system of classification you're using for taxonomy, so now we're getting bogged down in definitions.
-
Okay, I kinda messed up. I'm talking about a Human. My idea was you guys would have to figure out who. Now I realize I shouldn't have made it so specific.
-
Humans are animals you know.
-
Yeah I think if you'd said "yes" to the answer "is it an animal?" we probably would've gotten it.
Though I get where you're coming from, humans classically aren't animals, though I think most people these days would consider humans to be animals. (Though maybe that's just my surroundings, dunno.)
-
Humans do have all of the characteristics of animals so I would say humans are animals. Even if we do not think of ourselves as animals.
-
I have a super generic one for you all to try and guess.
Ask away.
-
What is it?
-
What is it?
Has to be a yes or no question.
-
I guess I will just give the answer.
The answer was a book.
