With elections going on, I think I could throw this out there. With regards to my interest on the history aspect of Wintreath, I feel that the candidates and elected official, their positions, as well as members of the cabinet and royals should be catalogued and updated as they changed. This could be stored in a separate area of the forum that would serve as a history as well as a resource for future elections, appointments, etc.. Then the information could be stored while clearing the forum areas of importance such as elections and government pages for updates without getting clunky. I also feel once a judiciary is instated, it will be imperative for decisions and punishments of who and when to be catalogued for future reference in a place where it can be easily accessed for the same reasons, to de-clunk the forums. Another function would be for military purposes to determine trends from the history of invasions, treaties, etc. Just some thoughts. I am a person who believes a history is absolutely necessary to a more stable and a smarter region.
I'm not sure if this should fall under the Ministry of Culture or Information however, but I am leaning towards Information.
[edit] Also I wonder if this should go under suggestions in the Technical forum?
-
Hmm, that might be quite interesting - allows us to set precedent for future elections as well :)
Now that you've mentioned history, I wonder if we should throw together a document defining Witreath's 'history' as a region etc. That'd be up to Mootles though, I guess.
-
It would also be very useful in determining precedents for judiciary rulings and a way for the people to see if the rulings were being laid out fairly across all citizens. But yes, it would be up to him. And I do think it should fall under Ministry of Information but I don't know if we even have one yet...
-
This is a good idea! Which ministry it would fall under depends...is this pure history, or will this include roleplay?
-
Well there could be both. I believe there absolutely needs to be pure history of the decisions and going ons of the site, but having a role play history and gathering that together for all nations to contribute to (or otherwise if decided) could be a good way to entice people who love that sort of thing into joining. The role play could be under culture and the pure history could go to information if thats the way we did it.

I think this is a pretty good way of doing it, and I agree with including elements of RP - it'll make what otherwise might end up quite a bland recount into an interesting read for newer members.
-
I would recommend keeping any "pure" history and any RP history separate, though. Having them both in the same place might confuses people that are new to Wintreath, especially those that are new to NS.
How do you propose we start?

True, perhaps link the two to each other at the top of the document? A [Click here for ____ version] or something.
For the one, we'd have to start from the foundation of the region and the passage of the first law, along with the formalising of the constitution (probably have an index of relevant topics for readers to go to) and the first elections. I don't know about all future elections being documented as closely but I would recommend at least recording the candidates and the outcomes.
For the other, well... that's a whole different kettle of fish and would need a few people working on it, and you'd probably need to be involved to give everything the Royal Seal of Approval as it were ;)
-
Well, the Provisional Government only created one law by decree, and only because Citizenship requirements were vital to getting started to make a permanent law. I suppose I can write about the founding of the region, although I will have to give some thought on how to describe the events in Spiritus that were responsible for my leaving and creating this region.
-
That'd be contained within the factual representation, then?
-
Well yes...there's enough drama in that story for it to not need sprucing up. :P
-
I think that until things with the government get hammered out, the focus should be on cataloguing everything that happens to make our region what it is in that sense. The RP aspects can come later once we have a stable system running in our favor. But you guys are essentially describing what I believe to be the most important things that would need to occur in a logistical sense. I wouldn't want RP and pure history to mix either as it would indeed confuse players who are new to everything. But as many players begin on NationStates for the idea of RP, I do think it would be a good recruitment aspect of our Region. Those that would love the RP aspect could join for that and then ease into the government system and vice versa. I think its a win win for everyone who would also be able to read the histories and get a really good grasp of what we are all about whether they join a month from now or at a more distant time.
-
Sums up the arguments for very nicely, I think.
-
I had mentioned it in Ducky's citizenship application that I find this an excellent idea and I'd love to help out wherever necessary. :)
About under which ministry would this fall under, perhaps it could be branched off? Ministry of Information would focus on cataloguing and putting together governamental information (elections, laws, constitution, WA resolution debates/consensus and so on) and Ministry of Culture would focus on the "pure" historical aspect (and, if I understood the discussion correctly, the RP part). Or would it be better to have a single ministry and separate offices in it working on each aspect?
Would we create a separate forum to store all the information? We could create a Wiki over time, maybe, as the volume of information grows, but I do think keeping everything in the same place is ultimately easier for who's keeping track of it and who's only consulting it.
-
I actually had a similar idea. The name of it was the Wintreath Historia, although this idea is rather good. About the ministry I have no idea where it would fall under.
-
This is a great idea, and I think keeping records of these things is vital. I know very little about the history of Wintreath as I think it was last week that I joined this region, but if there is any way I can help out, I'd be happy to.
-
Any official word on this, Mootles?
-
It's been an exceptionally busy week, and I haven't had much chance to do more than the absolute necessary stuff in the region...I'll get to it as soon as possible...
-
I haven't forgotten about this. :P
I'm just not sure how to write about the creation of this region in an impartial manner...how to convey that I resigned from the top position in another region and renounced my Citizenship in the only region I'd ever been a part of because that region's Delegate had spent the previous week claiming he was going to leave the region at some point in the future because of me, attacking my honour and character, portraying me as a bully and distorting things that happened to make it appear that way. Noting that I tried time and time again to resolve the issue that he supposedly had, pointing out correctly that nobody was the saint in this, only to be ignored or heaped on. I particularly loved the part where after "resigning" he was given six days to withdraw his resignations, while I was demasked within an hour of my own resignation. And how do I impartially note that as far as I'm aware, he was never as much as censured for pulling this shit? That he intentionally wasn't named in any official release regarding my departure for his "protection".
I think you guys can see how I may have issues writing a bland, impartial history on that like you'd see in a history textbook. :P In fairness, the creation of this region wasn't a bland affair, at least not for me. There was a lot of emotion...sadness and anger over what happened, also, but also nervousness about starting a new region. There was a time when we only had 12 nations, and 3 or 4 of them were mine. There was no guarantee that Wintreath would work out at all, much less work out in such a short amount of time. If Wintreath had failed, I honestly don't now if I'd still be in NS, so I had a lot personally at stake in this.
After creation, our first month was probably focused on growth. Wintreath was founded 10/17 and we started recruiting on 10/26. I think it first became apparent that we could be a success during the Halloween zombie apocalypse event, where we cured all our infected, left our borders opened, and went from 56 to 99 nations in three days. I would say our second month that just ended was focused on government building...we've had our Constitutional Convention, the Hvitt Riddaral really became organized and started operations, and Charax really got our FA department going. Oh yeah, and treaty with Lazarus, which is our first-ever treaty. Let's not forget we got our legislature in place and our first-ever elections. I think with Butterspring's Wintropolis RP this was also the first month we started having some unique regional culture.
Into month three and we've already had our first response to a foreign crisis, the coup in Osiris. We're also ratifying our Constitution and refocusing on improvements to this website...who knows what else our third month will bring?
This isn't really a document, just some notes on our history. The portions I'm able to be more impartial about. :P
-
Well Wintermoot, I'd say write a history thing, on the history of Wintreath, and then later someone else could write it in an impartial way. Not only that, but the winners always write the history. So history books are not as impartial as some would think. Besides if you work on a history book, we have a first hand account of what happened, then someone else, could re-write the non-impartial parts of it to be more impartial.
-
Well, one could start at the process of founding Wintreath and forget about the past region you were in. By starting with making this region, you wouldn't really need to delve into your past. You're looking to share this regions history, not your own (not meaning to belittle or diminish what happened), so sticking to just events from the founding to today should be included.

In, my opinion the events that occurred outside of the region is rather important, as without it, we wouldn't be here. It's like not talking about the events that led up to the American revolution, and having US history begin with the American Revolution, which it didn't. So It's kinda needed to have that part of the history

Agreeing with Chanku, here. The Events in Spiritus are incredibly important to why this region was founded. You don't just leave that out.
-
Agreed with Chanku and Denth. A proper understanding of the events that led to Wintreath is necessary. I'm just not sure I'm the right person to narrate those events. :P
-
Depends on the style you're going for... Is this going to be an entirely factual recount of events or more of a user's guide to how the region came about?
