Title: [OOC] Mandate of Heaven: Lost Paradise

This roleplay is set in Ethysova, where the fictional empire of Marchosias was experiencing a decline of imperial power. Founded by Darkon of House Heinrich, Marchosias used to be one of the most powerful empires in the Realm. For centuries, Marchosias enjoyed peace and stability under the rule of House Heinrich. However, the untimely demise of Daegan, Seventh Emperor of Marchosias, would soon lead to a period of turmoil. Daylon, Eighth Emperor of Marchosias, succeeded the throne at the young age of twelve. Taking advantage of the newly crowned emperor's political inexperience, Gorden, then Commander of the Imperial Guards, assassinated Daylon and usurped the throne. Prompted by the murder of a legitimate emperor, Imperial Secretary Fabian secretly called upon the regional lords to aid in the overthrowing of the tyrant. The military coup succeeded with the deposition of the tyrant and appointment of Damian as the new Emperor. Devon, the regional lord who possessed the greatest military power at that time, appointed himself the Chancellor and wielded the entire power of the Imperial Court. This invoked the wrath of the people, resulting in the resentment of the entirety of Marchosias.

The world was plunged into chaos, but only then can heroes emerge. You, the roleplayers, are born into this period of chaos. Will you strive to rid the empire of traitors and restore the glory of the legitimate empire or will you seek eternal fame and glory by attempting to take the throne for yourself? The choice is yours.

This is both a character and faction roleplay, allowing roleplayers to develop their characters while going to war with others. Thanks to everyone here, signups are now open.

Thanks. If anyone's interested to discuss, here are some discussion points.

- What roles would your character be taking?
(Example: A regional warlord who is seizing land to increase his power.)
(Example: A talented hermit waiting for the right master to serve.)

- Who would be interested to be the mapmaker and how the map should look like?

- Any suggestions for the names of the cities in this world? It would be important for both military warfare and on the negotiation table.

- How to determine which side loses in a battle?
(Suggestion: My idea would be for roleplayers to settle who would win or lose in the OOC thread first. However, if the roleplayers prefer to have a dice system and so on, I am fine with it.)

I'd be a peasant leading a revolt to remove all the current royals and warlords and replace them with my peasant buddies. As for deciding who wins, we could always leave it up to spontaneous roleplay without any agreed-upon winner beforehand!

Here is a list of significant characters that will pre-exist in this roleplay.

Chancellor Devon, Head of House Myerson, claims to possess 100,000 troops. Currently residing in Ifeland, the Capital of the Empire.
 
Marquis Jeremy, Governor of Aelinmiley, Head of House Champlin, Leader of the Coalition against Chancellor Devon, claims to possess 25,000 troops. Currently residing in Aelinmiley.

Interest captured, I'd be most amused playing as a commander in.... one force or another, with the possibility of going rouge if the higher ups are too tactically suicidal. Probably looking to start with 100-5000 men, Sapp's discretion here, as well as where and who I work for. Also... are these troops Chinese period, just period, or what? (ie would Eastern Roman legions be out of place here? I assume so, but I want to be certain.)

I'm in, though I'll confess I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to Chinese Feudalism.  If we're just using that time period as inspiration and the map because it's convenient, then all the better.  If not, then I can certainly brush up on Wikipedia.

Yes, we will only be using that time period as inspiration and map because it's convenient. The medieval element of this roleplay refers more to "medieval armies that use swords, bows, old-fashioned armour, horses and so on" than strictly "Chinese troops". As long as the Eastern Roman legions do not have too much technological advances, it should be fine.

As for when this starts, I would say as soon as I get to making the applications for both houses and characters.

I am still hoping for a map editor but we will start without that if need be. For now, it's time for me to prepare to go to school.

Before I forget, sorry to trouble you Wintermoot, but I would like to have a subforum for this roleplay. The title would be "Mandate of Heaven" and the description would be "Ambition is the path to Success".

East Roman Empire existed in the time period given, but were also fairly technologically advanced, having access to a variety of siege engines and excellent gear and training. Much more so than the Chinese at the time. (If I were to use them in game, they would be cut off from the empire and so would loose the supply line necessary to maintain most of their advantages, unless you allowed that to remain open considering that the Silk Road existed at this time.)

Their he struggled to survive, but his tenacity and bravery caught the eye of an older warrior who took him in once it was clear that he was not the chief’s son. So he was also taught how to fight as a barbarian horse lord. Now, having returned to china upon the murder of his mentor, with some of the tribesmen who could no longer live in the area due to clan wars and feuds, he serves the only house that would take him in at the time, Narthwich. He is currently a minor lord in his own right, having a modest estate of several hundred acres in the northern, less developed, reaches of the province.

Background: Telkartha was the daughter of a warrior who "mysteriously disappeared" when she was 5. Her mother married again and practically deserted her in Ifeland. To simplify things, would it be possible for you to change your character's military ranking to Major or Colonel? Finally, forgive me for asking but what are Shonins?

Oh silly me, Shonin is fan fic material that got confused for fact, that's what I get for doing the application when I should be sleeping though, lol. The Warriors are the professional portion of the army, and are often used as personal guards and shock troops.

However, he is arrogant and condescending to those he deems unsuited to speak to a person of noble lineage like himself.

When he heard of the murder of the legitimate Emperor by the hands of the Commander of the Imperial Guards, he was one of the first who took to arms against the tyrant. However, he made a great mistake by seeking the aid of a fellow warlord named Devon.  The successful military coup resulted in the overthrowing of the tyrant but the Empire now had a new tyrannical regent, one who possessed a much stronger army. When Chancellor Devon tried to capture and execute his former allies, namely the other warlords, Jeremy fled the capital as fast as he could and returned back to Aelinmiley. Today, Marquis Jeremy spearheads a coalition of warlords against Chancellor Devon, making him the archrival of the strongest man in the Empire.

Sorry it's taking so long for me to formulate a character...

Can you please give an example of what a civil official character might entail?  Does this include members of Parliament (is there a parliament?), or administrators, judges...?

Examples of civil officials include but not limited to Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Justice, Minister of the Treasury, Imperial Secretary and so on. Even the position that Chancellor Devon is holding can be considered a civil position.

Hmmm, I expect to be a generally loyal general for my house, until I see it costing me everything I have, then I'll cut my losses and move on to the next willing host or strike out on my own, depending on how things stand at that point.

Plot: there will probably be several battles, before things settle into an uneasy peace for a time and then some important NPC will die and throw everything into chaos again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Specifically,
 looking to see Devon send his entire Amry to squash the rebellion, the Coalition scrambles to raise it's meager defenses, the barbarian hordes notice the lightly defended Capital and send raids north to probe the defenses and Devon has to pull some of his army back, and the Coalition commanders are elated as that means they'll have the upper hand once everyone arrives... except that not everyone arrives, so they're back at square one with roughly equal numbers, maybe a larger number of warriors(due to increased number of generals) but significantly less cohesion, at least until after the first battle. The first battle can swing either way honestly, it really doesn't matter.

If the Empire wins, the troops will have to turn south to face the barbarians, If the Coalition wins, they will begin fighting among themselves for the glory and give Devon time to fortify and recruit a new army.

Either way, both will disengage until the next year, because Devon will be busy with raiders and the Coalition will be busy restructuring their almost non-existent chain of command.

Something I had forgotten to mention is that whilst Emperor Damian may be a puppet Emperor due to his age, he is still part of the legitimate imperial household. This is the main reason why Chancellor Devon did not usurp the throne. He wanted to portray himself as the protector of the legitimate empire, justifying his utilization of Ifeland's army. After all, before he became the Chancellor, he was left with 40,000 troops due to the war. Now with 100,000 troops in his hands, he has the greatest military force in terms of numerical value. Not to forget there are many Imperial loyalists within the army of Ifeland.

Accepted, but note that Raion will not be considered a Lord until Governor Leo either dies or retires and passes the title over to his heir. As part of the birthday celebrations, each province will get to pick one of the perks that would provide them a significant boost in one area. Here is the list.

1) Cavalry (Most of your troops are mounted on a horse. This allows you to gain a boost in terms of speed and provides you with the upperhand when it comes to land warfare. However, they are inexperienced in naval warfare and are more susceptible to seasickness.)

2) Recruitment (The locals would gladly serve in the army. This allows you to increase your military population more effectively than the rest. However, most of the troops you have would be recruits with no battle experience, causing you to have a disadvantage when it comes to land warfare.)

3) Fertile Land (Your lands are rich in nutrients, making them extremely beneficial for agricultural activities. This allows you to obtain larger quantities of food supplies in lesser time as compared to the rest.)

Yay, my examinations are over. Meanwhile, I have changed the titles of the Lords to fit the new Governor Rank System. Lord Adrian is now a Count, Lord Douglas, Lord Gerald, Lord Theodore and Lord Leo are now Viscounts. I have removed the Civil Official Application Form since there doesn't seem to be any interest in having such a character. I am considering putting up a Governor Application Form for the unconquered Provinces but I would put that idea on hold until more people join us.

Until the Imperial Court issues an edict bestowing the title of Baron/Viscount/Count/Marquis/Duke to him, Raion is still considered the son of a Governor. So no, Raion is not a Baron (yet). He has the authority and power of a Governor but do not have an official title, saving him the trouble of dealing with the imperial decree.

The initial plan was that Donovan would lead 10,000 Cavalry to ransack the villages of Blencathra to obtain supplies while General Nigel would lead the main army to Asopeos to rendezvous with Leo. However, this plan had to be aborted after General Nigel repeatedly refused to send reinforcements despite Donovan’s multiple pleas for immediate assistance as the looted supplies were running low.

A week later, General Nigel issued the order for the main army to set up a new military base along the River of Blencathra. Besides the Silverblood Forest that surrounded Stronghold Bloodfeet, the River of Blencathra was the only remaining natural border left to separate the imperial army and the barbarian tribes. The following day, when the imperial army was marching across the river to attack Stronghold Bloodfeet, gushing waves suddenly swept down and drowned many imperial troops. This also prevented the bulk of the imperial army from getting across. Taking advantage of the situation, the barbarians immediately launched an attack. This caused the annihilation of all the imperial troops that had crossed the river, with Nigel himself amongst those who had been slain. Donovan immediately issued the order to retreat, leading the remnants of the Imperial Army to flee back to his base.

After promising one of Donovan's messengers to help, Leo decided two send his son and heir Raion along with 2,000 troops carrying supplies enough for 12,000 men to Donovan's camp in Blencathra, while sending another 2,000 troops lead by Commander-in-Chief Claw with Nigel's army, who largely stayed out of the battle seeing as it's a losing one, after the initial defeat of the imperial forces, House Fortis troops rendezvoused in Donovan's camp where Raion had made up a plan to defeat the barbarian army stationed in stronghold Bloodfeet, using a spy named Furtim who was poised as a commander in the Barbarian army as a bait for the barbarian troops to leave the sanctuary of their strongkeep by relying a false message that Silverblood is under attack, while the imperial and House Fortis troops hid in the thick vegetation surrounding the stronghold, as soon as the barbarians left it, they were met with waves of fiery arrows killing hundreds of them, courtesy of House Fortis archers, immediately donovan ordered his 10,000 Cavalery to engage the confused barbarians, he was joined by Raion, who was in turn followed by House Fortis generals who wanted to protect their future lord, the lion riders of House Fortis who was positioned on the other side of the stronghold saw the signal of Furtim the spy and entered it from its back entrance engaging the unsuspecting barbarians from behind, hearing the Lion roars the remaining imperial and house Fortis troops joined the fray, in the meantime Donovan defeated the High Commander of the barbarians Tom while receiving some injuries the Generals of House Fortis followed suit by defeating the other three commanders Tim, Thomas and Timothy, and after a long duel Raion finally succeeded in killing The barbarian King Oolacaryn while suffering moderate injuries, seeing this the remaining barbarians whom in reality were made up of men that were forced to fight surrendered immediately, At the end of the battle House Fortis lost 100 lion rider 250 swordsmen and 150 spearmen, the Imperials lost 650 cavalry and 850 footmen, however being ambushed, the barbarian had the most loses 4000 falling by the archers only and another 4000 killed by cavalry, 5000 killed by lion riders and another 5000 were killed by the rest. Out of the 22,000 that surrendered 12,000 joined the imperials and 10,000 joined House Fortis.

Leo, I won't exactly say that Emperor Damian was loved by the residents of Ifeland, mainly because he has never been given a chance to be exposed to them. He was mostly locked up in the palace by House Myerson. However, I must say that Emperor Daegan was well loved for his virtues which is why there are still many loyalists residing all over the Empire.

Meanwhile, after Emperor Damian has fled the Imperial Palace and the Siege of Pegasus has taken place, I will do a time skip so that we can fast forward to the invasion of Ifeland.

I am not sure how you will be able to bring all those peasants into the Imperial Palace. Meanwhile, I have an idea that you can consider.

Firstly, you tell Emperor Damian to write an edict requesting for help. Next, you use the female servants to delay Gladwin and his imperial guards by whichever method you see fit. After Emperor Damian finished writing, Count Leo can bring the scroll and sneak out of the Emperor's residence through the backdoor. By coincidence, instead of going to the other military camps, he arrived at the Juggernaut Barracks where he would be able to meet Donovan. Accepting the imperial edict, Donovan would lead the imperial cavalry units to the Emperor's residence to rescue the Emperor and bring him and his consort out of the palace.

But then, this plan has a flaw. Donovan would only be saving the Emperor and his consort so the rest of the Lords would have to escape the Imperial Palace by themselves.

House Heinrich

One of the Major Houses of Marchosias, it used to be the Royal House before it was deposed during the Betrayal of House Myerson. After its ouster, Damian, Patriarch of House Heinrich, along with the remaining loyalists, established the State of Lykaios. Its territory is mainly in the western region, consisting of three provinces, namely Ifeland, Luoyang and Senzetor. Its seat of power is Lycan, an ancestral stronghold that used to house the Imperial Court, its sigil is a black wolf on a white background and its motto is "Acme of Excellence". It is currently the richest Major House in terms of wealth and has an army of 350,000 troops.

Damian: As Patriarch of House Heinrich, he served as the Tenth Emperor of Marchosias before he was ousted. After the establishment of the State of Lykaios, he reclaimed Lycan and proclaimed himself the King of Lykaios.

Donovan: The Imperial Uncle of Damian, his true identity had not been revealed. He served as the General of the Elite Cavalry in the Imperial Army before the ouster of Damian. After the establishment of the State of Lykaios, he was given the title of Regent Marshal of Lykaios as he displayed his loyalty when he helped Damian escape the Imperial Palace.

Fabian: As Patriarch of House Laprene, a Vassal of House Myerson who later supported House Heinrich, he served as Imperial Secretary in the Imperial Court before the ouster of Damian. After the establishment of the State of Lykaios, he was given the title of Chancellor of Lykaios as he was recognized as the one of the finest civil official of Lykaios.

Valin: As Patriarch of House Corthis, a Vassal of House Heinrich, he served as the General who Conquers the West in the Imperial Army before the ouster of Damian. After conquering Luoyang and becoming the Marquis of Luoyang, he rebelled against Devagus, Eleventh Emperor of Marchosias, who usurped the throne from his liege Damian.

House Champlin

One of the Major Houses of Marchosias, it used to be a Minor House before the Betrayal of House Myerson. During the Righteous March, it was House Heinrich who spearheaded the Coalition in the fight against House Myerson. After the ouster of Damian, Jeremy, Patriarch of House Heinrich, established the State of Akatriel. Its territory is mainly in the southeastern region, consisting of eleven provinces, namely Aelinmiley, Hedgemont, Actianona, Nordale, Ormymnur, Granarctene, Dalarctand, Noriatica, Sparadius, Etharcius and Thralkeld. Its seat of power is Lucid, an ancestral stronghold that used to house the Port of Marchosias, its sigil is a white dove on a red background, and its motto is "Soar the Skies". It is currently the richest Major House in terms of provisions and has an army of 300,000 troops.

Jeremy: As Patriarch of House Champlin, he dreams of uniting Marchosias and becoming the Emperor. After the establishment of the State of Akatriel, he reclaimed Lucid and proclaimed himself the King of Akatriel.

Antonidas: As Patriarch of House Ainsworth, a Vassal of House Champlin, he served as the Chief Strategist in the Champlin Army. After the establishment of the State of Akatriel, he was given the title of Regent Marshal of Akatriel as he was recognized as one of the greatest war strategist of Akatriel.

Darilyn: Consort of Antonidas, she was the sister of Devagus and the last surviving member of House Myerson.

Aiden: As Patriarch of House Stein, a Vassal of House Champlin, he served as a Senior Official in the Champlin Court. After the establishment of the State of Akatriel, he was given the title of Chancellor of Akatriel as he was recognized as one of the finest civil official of Akatriel.

Its seat of power is Sophia, an ancestral stronghold that used to house the Temple of Marchosias, its sigil is a gold owl on a blue background, and its motto is "Wisdom is Supreme". It is currently the strongest Major House in terms of cavalry and has an army of 300,000 troops.

Douglas: As Patriarch of House Champlin, he dreams of restoring peace for Marchosias. After the establishment of the State of Miranda, he reclaimed Sophia and proclaimed himself the King of Miranda.

Emir: As Patriarch of House Mahavir, a Vassal of House Miranti, he served as a General in the Miranti Army. After the establishment of the State of Miranda, he was given the title of Regent Marshal of Miranda as he was recognized as one of the greatest general of Miranda.

After the ouster of Damian, Leo, Patriarch of House Fortis, established the State of Leonum. Its territory is mainly in the southwestern region, consisting of four regions, namely Asopeos, Blencathra, Timarctus and Manchannya. Its seat of power is Spelunca, an ancestral stronghold that used to house the Temple of Leaena, the Lioness Goddess (Minority Religion), its sigil is a golden lion on a red and black striped background, and its motto is "Together We Roar". The House is renowned for its lions which are used for transportation and war and has an army of 200,000 troops.

Leo: As Patriarch of House Fortis, he was an old friend of Daegan, Seventh Emperor of Marchosias. After the establishment of the State of Leonum, he reclaimed Spelunca and proclaimed himself the King of Leonum.

Raion: Heir of Leo, he is an aspiring warrior and a brilliant strategist who seeks to make his father proud. After the establishment of the State of Leonum, he was given the title of Crown Prince of Leonum.

Claw: Before the establishment of the State of Leonum, he served as a General in the Fortis Army. After the establishment of the State of Leonum, he was given the title of Regent Marshal of Leonum as he was recognized as one of the greatest general of Leonum.

I know I shouldn't beat a dead horse but I just felt like checking again. Would anyone be interested in a sequel for this roleplay? If so, would you prefer it to be a dice-based one or a free-form one? Even if it's just suggestions to enhance the roleplay (eg. Adding fantasy elements like magic), feel free to post them.
