Title: Additional Awards?
Post by: Chanku on June 19, 2017, 12:54:43 AM
An idea I had is to create some additional awards. Right now we have two honors that we really give to people: Paragon Status and the Wintreath Commendation. However I was thinking we could create a few that are more towards a specific subject, for example one for outstanding service in culture, law, foreign affairs, recruitment, improvement of wintreath in general, and for those with outstanding service in the chambers of the Storting.

An idea we could do is have each of these be given by the Storting, at the recommendation of the monarchy (at least for certain areas, like culture, FA, recruitment, and the like), which means that the Storting isn't really expected to give them to anyone they want, but instead requires the monarchy to request this (it also gives the Storting something to do). The Monarchy would, ideally, be allowed to award them during periods that the Storting is unable too (inactivity or before a Speaker is elected) and only the Monarchy could revoke them (to prevent this from becoming politicized).

The Overhusen one would be done at the recommendation of the Overhusen/Chairman and the Underhusen one would be done at the recommendation of an individual by the Speaker (or by two Skrifa, the Speaker can not nominate themselves).

This is just an idea, but would be nice, especially for new people as it gives them something to work towards.

It may have been forgotten, but each Jarl can create a title and confer it to someone for outstanding service in an area (Royal Decree 005 Section 6). To my knowledge this power has never been used, though.

More informally, something that I was going to suggest to the Cabinet but never had the time to is that we put on a yearly awards show...we could create the categories, from serious to silly, and do nominations and voting for each of them. It's something the very first forum I was heavily involved in did and it was pretty fun, and I've also seen it done elsewhere (the Defender Awards on NS, for example).

My thing is that this is more of a serious thing, and these are meant to be outside of a department because of the fact that department's are able to be dissolved at will, while the services that the department performed may still be done by the citizenry. Further these awards aren't meant to be yearly, but more like Wintreath Commendations that are a bit more common and more prevalent.

I wasn't adding to your idea...I was suggesting an alternative idea. :P

I recognize that, my response was a refutation of yours.

Also, @Wintermoot , how many of the Ministries are actually active?

I'd say the ministries are reasonably active. Gerrick is doing a great job overseeing the Ministry of Culture, Foreign Affairs is doing what it has to do, and we just elected BraveSirRobin to be Delegate and I'm sure he'll do fine in the position. The Ministry of Information does not have a Jarl, but given that its only remaining charge is producing the Orendi I'm not sure we even need that ministry anymore.

The only ministry I'd say is inactive is the Ministry of Integration, and Finrod has assured me that he'll be able to return to activity soon.
