So here's an odd question that's been on my mind: Does your sexual preference change if you swap bodies?

So here's the situation:
By some weird magic, you've swapped bodies with someone of the opposite gender and you're gay. Are you attracted to people of the same gender still, or are you attracted to what is now your opposite gender? If you're a gay guy and you swap bodies with a straight girl, are you attracted to men or women? You're a lesbian and you swap bodies with a straight girl, are you now straight or still gay?

if you are only swapping bodies if you are a guy who is gay who swapped with a girls body you would still like men, if your mind goes into someone else its still you  (I have thought about this myself some years back when I liked to wear girls clothes hehe) but yeah you are you, your body can change but inside you will still be you 

Right.  You're only swapping bodies, you never said anything about taking on their conscious mind/personality/thoughts/memories or the like.  So in the end, it'd still be completely you, just in a different physical form.

In that aspect, whatever thoughts you already have would stay the same.  I'd still be attracted to men, and I'd still be attracted to the same type of men regardless of who I switched with.  The only differences would be A) I'd be attracted to them in a new body and B) Depending on the sex of the person I switched with, I'd just be considered "straight" in the case of swapping bodies with a woman.  However, I have the mind of a male, so I'd still consider myself homosexual.  If anything, if I swapped bodies with a woman, I'd just be transgender since I would never "feel" like a female...and the end result would be most likely going the route of making that "feeling" into a reality again, pretty much taking it back to me being a male in a male's body that is attracted to males.

Now, if you had mentioned anything about taking on the swapper's feelings or the like...then that would change the game a bit.  You'd take on essentially what they were feeling and desiring as opposed to what you feel/desire.

Again though, since it's not the case and its still your mind...then it's still completely you.  You'd still be attracted to what you were attracted to in your original body.  Again, the labeling would just be different if the body switch was with the opposite sex...but that's depending on how you feel internally about yourself, and really the sex of your very brain as opposed to just the current body.

I honestly think the physical doesn't matter much, and it'll matter even less in the future. I imagine a future where we have full control of our bodies to reflect who we are and what we want to resemble, and as time goes on doing so will be easier, faster, and cheaper.

That being said, I hope that by the time it happens people have become enlightened and encouraged to explore and embrace their sexuality (which I believe would rarely be entirely straight or gay), instead of changing their body to take on a "normal" sexuality.

I've never thought of it as "I like Gender A because I am Gender B". Just "I like Gender A".

Maybe it'll help the discussion if I sort of explain why I asked this. I had a rather odd dream where I was swapping bodies with a female friend of mine, which led me to wonder whether I'm her, I would be attracted to guys or girls, cause I'm fairly certain I'm gay. My reasoning for the being attracted to men would be because I'm into them now but my reasoning for being attracted to girls is because I'm gay and maybe I'd still be gay when I switched.

I don't think it would work like that...you're swapping bodies, not personalities and mental things. I imagine you would keep the same attractions...now if you did swap mental things, you would have her sexuality, but then you'd no longer be you in any context, so the point would be moot.

And then if you tried to change anything in the mind to fix that, then you're the one deciding what to change (since you're creating this hypothetical scenario), which would also render the whole point moot.

This is what I was getting at later on in my post.  Even though physically you'd be in a different body, your mind would be the same.  Some people might be cool with the gender swap and  would feel comfortable...most would not after a short time.  They'd miss what their original gender had, and would most likely over time take steps to go back to being that gender if there wasn't a way to swap back.

Given that point, I think I'd be too busy freaking out the first time I look in the mirror, and seeing someone else instead of me, or at least feeling like it's someone else and not being able to find me, to be thinking about who I want to date.

I suppose it depends on how much of our "mind" is a function of anything but our bodies. If one believes in souls and such I imagine it would work out like people have said. You'd still be you in essence and thus retain your sexuality and attractions despite your new body.
However if one believes that the mind is a function of the brain and nothing more....well it would be a moot point. If you swapped brains you'd just die.
