Title: "Seeing" Antimatter for the first time
Post by: Mathyland on December 21, 2016, 02:18:46 AM
Appearantly, scientists at CERN have finally been able to detect the light spectrum of antimatter after 20 years of trying, and it seems to be the same as regular matter. This is very exciting to me, and you can find an article about it here. (http://www.sciencealert.com/physicists-have-observed-the-light-spectrum-of-antimatter-for-first-time) When I heard about it on Facebook, I was skeptical, but I found it elsewhere and they seemed to know what they were talking about. You have to be careful because things like this (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/science/639279/SCIENTISTS-discover-invisible-alien-entities-spying-on-us-on-Earth/amp) exist. But this, I believe, is real and very exciting. This could lead to discovering why there is more matter than antimatter in the universe.

Here's the CERN press release (http://www.interactions.org/cms/?pid=1036129).

And here's the Nature News article (http://www.nature.com/news/ephemeral-antimatter-atoms-pinned-down-in-milestone-laser-test-1.21193).

And the Nature journal article (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaap/ncurrent/full/nature21040.html).

All really exciting stuff.
