Title: The Impact of the Travel Ban on Esports
Post by: Wintermoot on February 10, 2017, 05:35:40 AM
Over the past few days, I've ran into a few articles about the impact or potential impact that Trump's immigration ban could have on e-sports, especially in that it would ban some professional players from the United States...essentially also banning them from any competitions or leagues in the United States as well. What I found interesting is that in many cases these people aren't actually based in the countries that were banned...they just hold dual-Citizenship with one of those countries and a European country.

Yahoo Esports: Trump's Immigration Ban Hits Top Smash 4 and Street Fighter V Players (https://esports.yahoo.com/trumps-immigration-ban-hits-top-smash-4-and-street-fighter-v-players-203710688.html)
PC Gamer: Gabe Newell on US travel ban: 'We have people at Valve who can't go home' (http://www.pcgamer.com/gabe-newell-on-us-travel-ban-we-have-people-at-valve-who-cant-go-home/?utm_content=buffer21a06&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamerfb)

The Valve article is more focused on employees, but it did mention the impact on esports, including the fact that Valve would consider moving it's Dota 2 "The International" tournament out of the US if the travel ban is reinstated.
