I think we are losing people :/

A number of things are at play here...things seem to be coming up for a lot of people in real life, and we're unable to recruit new nations as much as we used to be able to with stamps. I know cunning had announced that she's leaving NationStates entirely, and TGP mentioned he was busy with school the last time he was around. There's nothing we can really do but hope that real life gets settled for people soon so they can return.

I think we need to start being concerned by the declining rate of citizens.
The cabinet will look to address this and personally I will do more to recruit.

I think as people get better settled into work/school, the summer lull will really end. At least over these few days there's a positive trend.

In my experience from last year the lull will slowly alleviate in September and activity should really start picking up in October. I'm not sure how true that will ring for us since the lull didn't really drag down forum activity as much as I feared it would, but that's the general trend.

This is the spreadsheet I've been using to track Citizenship and activity since July, and based this post off of (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?topic=1335.0). I'm planning on doing a more complete report next month, but the interesting thing to note is that while individual people are posting less, there are more people posting to make up for it which makes us a healthier community than we were back in July. Also, you can visually tell that the percentage of inactive nations (as seen in red) has dropped dramatically over the summer.
The private regional comparison I look at every month also echos this sentiment. For example, the percentage of posts by our top ten posters has dropped from 65% in June to 58% in September, suggesting that more people outside the top ten posters are posting. Our posts per member stats have gone from 31.77 in June to 41.8 this month, also suggesting that our post generation is growing faster than our membership, which I think suggests means we're doing a decent job at integration.
All the statistics I'm looking at show we're emerging from the summer lull with a good community foundation...it's just up to us to build on it going into the fall before the next lull, which will probably start during the holidays and continue until February. :)

I think our recruitment message is in need of a rewrite, to be honest. The base of our current message was written when we started recruiting last October, and hasn't been updated since the spring. We definitely need an expanded section on our community, especially that we're welcoming and accepting of LGBTQ people and have many here as it is. :)
This is something I hope to tackle in the next month as part of our 1-year update.

We don't want to make it seem like welcoming gay people is the main point of the region at all.

It may not be the main point, but it's a major portion of our community...over the summer, we have become much more of a social region with an even greater focus on community. I don't think our current message reflects that well.

As far as I know, Sachem's initial issue was that he couldn't serve in the military of two regions at once, which he apparently got some flak over in 10000 Islands. He then posted a discussion on here which was obviously about his experience in that region, giving what he felt were solutions that were based on incorrect assumptions and were not workable. He was also someone that threw out the word 'fascist' much too liberally over these things, referring to the UK government as fascist, as I'm sure Stark remembers.
Apparently he decided to move to a region that as far as I can tell only does RMB chat and roleplays on the NS site. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a fundamentally different sort of region that Wintreath will never be. Maybe, like Vang before him, he's more of a roleplayer and regional governments just aren't his thing. Don't get me wrong, I like Sachem as a person, and I'm disappointed that he decided to leave...he added an unique perspective to our region and was a prominent member of our community. However, it is what it is, and I hope he's happy in his current region.

Ironically, I developed the Ministry of Integration in Spiritus around the time I dissolved the Ministry of Immigration, which handled recruitment before the development of automated recruitment stamps...which came with me here to Wintreath. In a way it's nice that recruitment is coming home to the descendant ministry. :)

I'm actually not surprised with Harry. He seemed to have some disagreements with things around here...and he didn't seem like someone who was going to stay for insanely long. :P
But it might just be because I thought he was a little unusual.

I don't think he's going to last long in his new region, or any NS region. I'm surprised he hasn't left NS altogether, to be honest.

He always was sporadically active, from what I remember. I liked him because he wasn't afraid to take initiative and put his work out there. It didn't always make waves with the rest of the community, but I admired his passion.
His legacy will live on in our signatures!

Granted, it has been two months since the last sweep, and we're still at 86 citizens, which historically is a fair number. I'm just saddened to see a lot of familiar names on there.

It's not necessarily unexpected given the amount of time since the last sweep, but it's unfortunate...especially those that were active in the community before. I know that Aubrey became busy in real life, but the unexplained disappearances of Anneliese, Insectum, JustAGamer, Lord Belmont, and Torghust (not the most active but a long-time resident of the region) are blows to the community. I've noticed that in spite of all the new people we're getting, the number of people on each day has remained about the same, meaning that we're losing people as fast as we're getting them. We need to figure out why that is if we're going to grow any further as a region, I believe.
As for Daphne, having her nation CTE doesn't necessarily mean anything...until I hear otherwise, I'm going to continue hoping that she's able to recover and return to us. :)

It's hard to say...how many nations we recruit and how many Citizens we can keep once they apply probably has more to do with the total number, though. Doing away with the five post requirement to apply probably helped too.

I don't have a current graph...there's only so much time for me to indulge in putting that sort of stuff together, realizing that most people would rather I work on other things. :P
I can tell you from memory we have about half the Citizens we had at our 'height' in 2014/2015, and Paragons and Citizens without nations weren't things back then. I think that's mostly due to there being more competition for recruiting new nations and to us no longer using stamps to automate recruitment. On the other hand, spending $40/month for stamps just wasn't something I could keep doing, and it's the reason that Wintreath hasn't financially broke even if you look at donations and costs since we founded.

I'm going to do the pending Citizenship revocations a little differently this month because of recent events...in the chaos, it wasn't clear in all cases who was leaving and who was just resigning positions. I'm going to ping everyone who is in danger of losing Citizenship, and I apologize in advance if this is an unnecessary notification.
If you want to drop Citizenship, you don't have to do anything. Your Citizenship will be revoked in a week when the process runs. If you don't want to drop Citizenship, you will need to move your Citizenship nation in Wintreath (or let us know if your Citizenship nation has changed).
