Post your actions in this thread rather than PM them to me. You're not fighting each other, so it doesn't matter if you see what each other are doing.Hmm, wouldn't that be confusing for communications if every team is using the same thread? Though I suppose each team could still create their own private communications.
Signups will stay open through Monday, August 23.I do believe you meant October?
What if we were all in the same team? :PTeamwork!
Yeah, each team can create a team PM if they want to talk in private.Post your actions in this thread rather than PM them to me. Welcome to the fourth game of the Arena! As voted by you, the players, this game will be Team Players vs. Monsters, meaning players will group into teams to combat waves of beasts controlled by the Holy Triumvirate of Chance: Lord RNGesus, Lady Luck, and Miss Fortune. I, as the Host, will merely be their instrument, performing the actions they speak. All selections, actions, and targets of enemy beasts will be determined through the roll of the dice. Beasts come in waves, and at the end of each wave, players have a chance to receive potions.I don't think I've ever seen or heard "triumvirate" in a sentence, although I know what it means somehow...
Team: Uhrm, well, there only seems to be one team at this point. I suppose whatever team wants me lol
I also note that I'm pre-emptively accepting anyone who wants to join the team.Wouldn't that make Wintermoot part of Team Water Balloon Fight?
Hydra - Mysticyo gerrick hydra applied as hyrda
Wouldn't that make Wintermoot part of Team Water Balloon Fight? He didn't really say he wanted to join your team specifically, though. And a second team might be forming, so if there are 2 more people who join the game, I'll throw them all together into a second team.
yo gerrick hydra applied as hyrdaAh, thought that was a typo.
I wasn't in the waterballoon thing since the +1 -1 things don't interest me much, so I'll just be in whatever other team forms.you started Some Team, sort of, insofar as Wintermoot made it up as an example and you ran with it anyway
He didn't really say he wanted to join your team specifically, though. And a second team might be forming, so if there are 2 more people who join the game, I'll throw them all together into a second team.you're just denying TWBF supremacy because you were in The People's Team
Heyyyyyyyyyyyy, I'm not late, am I?I think you can still sign up, but hurry
lily i was going to accept you into TWBF and now thisyou were going to accept ANYONE into TWBF
your betrayal is unimaginable
13. At the end of the battle, the winning team will receive their prizes, and the betting spectators will either gain or lose credits depending on their wagers. This will all be recorded in a post at the Bank, and the relevant Bank accounts will be updated.Say, reading over the rules again, I have some questions. They may have been answered already. When does the battle end? When there is only one team left, or when all monsters are eliminated? If the former, does that mean the monsters respawn? If the latter, how is "winning" defined?
also, gerrick, now that i look harder at the classes;1. Yeah, it's just simpler when using RNGs. Though if someone has an argument why using multiple dice would be better, I'm willing to listen.
did you intentionally not use multiple dice (e.g. 2d12 instead of 1d25)
are Mystic skills replaced (e.g. I get Dispel, I use it, I have a chance to get Dispel again; alternatively, I get Dispel, I use it, I do not get it again at the first draw, but the next time I use a skill Dispel is back in the list of possibilities) or can you just deplete the list
do blocks last across rounds; e.g I am fighting a Rhinotaur and behind it in initiative; Round 1, it attacks, I block; Round 2, it attacks, I attack - will my block from Round 1 last into its attack in Round 2, since I haven't been able to go yet to change my action since then?
I'm not sure if the game works with only one team. The battle ends when only one team remains. There are an infinite amount of monsters, which spawn in waves. A new wave spawns when all the monsters of the previous wave are defeated. So, yeah, I don't really know how a winner would be chosen if there were only one team.
Say, reading over the rules again, I have some questions. They may have been answered already. When does the battle end? When there is only one team left, or when all monsters are eliminated? If the former, does that mean the monsters respawn? If the latter, how is "winning" defined?
On one hand, sharing the Mystics. One the other, TWBF. If nobody else joins the game/volunteers, I'll swap, but can we delay as long as possible?NO STAY WITH US

If the former, does that mean the monsters respawn? If the latter, how is "winning" defined? The rules say that the game ends when there is one team remaining. Hence why I wanted there to be only one team, just to see what would happen. :D
Though it may keep a faster team waiting, I hope it's based on waves then rather than turns, otherwise I want a team of Clerics to leave one weak NPC alive while just healing and resurrecting each other, taking the inactivity penalty on purpose if needed since it can be healed. You don't announce the strategy to the enemy! :P
I'm usually more into lunar symbology and mythology, so something about this team name feels off, but doesn't matter much, I join Lily Polisesul's Team of the Everlasting Sun.The Sun scoffs and turns away, offended.
I will also join Team of the Everlasting Sun.WELCOME TO THE SUN BOYZ
Though I try to avoid the sun, really, so this should be interesting. xD
I'll switch to that sun team or whatever since I was the one who caused the imbalance.read above
Stance: Defensive, Action: Call to Arms, Target: Myself, Hydra, ElbbsasYou have to be in offensive stance to perform Call to Arms (as well as the other Commander abilities), and you can't target yourself.
Oh, didn't realize we face off against the same enemies at the same time... I feel kinda useless if we're supposed to be competing now, I thought I'd be reducing damage against my side, but I'll be reducing damage against both sides apparently. There's no way I could just reduce damage to my side, or get the enemies to just skip their attack if their target would be my team?Ah, I see what you're saying. Yeah, you're all fighting the same enemies. I'll allow you to change your class if you want. Also, I'm changing Confuse to allow it so that the targeted enemy will randomly target anyone, including other beasts, if you want to switch for that ability.
4. At the start of the match, the Host will perform a 1d20 roll for initiative for each player and beast, determining the combat order for the first round. If that's the case, then what's the point of the Agility stat for beasts?
Wait second.Erm, that was a typo. Players get 1d20, beasts get whatever their agility allows. When I was writing that up, I just added "and beasts" as I was using the old template, and I didn't read through that part well enough, I guess.Quote from: Gerrick4. Heal Other: Heals the target for 1d10 HP. It cannot be casted on oneself.(emphasis mine)
Set Trap: Sets a trap that will deal 1d8+5 damage to the first enemy player to enter defensive stance and decreases their initiative by 5 on the next round. Is not affected by the trapped player's block or defensive stance. Acts like a separate entity from the Rogue, so is not affected by abilities that are dependent on or would affect the Rogue: e.g. Smite, Flame Cloak, Counterattack, Reflect, or damage-altering abilities.(emphases mine)
Glorious Warrior Yvonne needs no BALANCING or FIXES, unlike you Water Balloon HOOLIGANS.Your team member was the one who started this whole discussion :P
pls dont take me seriously im just getting into character i love you all <3
snipIdk on why you'd target a trap; I guess it's just because I run rogues a lot in TTRPGs so I'm used to seeing 'trap' and inferring 'I need to disarm it somehow'.
To be perfectly unambiguous though: abilities which say 'Targets' mean 'you cannot choose yourself as one of those targets', correct? That is correct.
Wait, did I play through an entire game as Paladin while unaware of this?To be perfectly unambiguous though: abilities which say 'Targets' mean 'you cannot choose yourself as one of those targets', correct? That is correct.
And that's the big twist. For you see, this whole time you thought YOU were TWBF... But it was actually ME!Glorious Warrior Yvonne needs no BALANCING or FIXES, unlike you Water Balloon HOOLIGANS.Your team member was the one who started this whole discussion :P

Stance: Offensivenice that spells out "taco"
Action: Lightning Bolt
Target: Wintrean Troll (Red)
Potion: None
The Mystic Hydra then gave a loud Rally cry to his teammates, temporarily boosting their defenses.
Goddamn it's hard to intentionally write something wrong. :))The Mystic Hydra then gave a loud Rally cry to his teammates, temporarily boosting their defenses.
But... but... but... my name is Hyrda! :P
Stance: DefenseTah dah! Much improve! High betterment! =P
Action: Charm
Target: Blue Winter Troll
Potion: No?
(can I target those on the other team?)Nope, not right now. Maybe if the game gets to be long and dragging on, I'll allow you all to start playing dirty.
Reminder to @Lily Polisesul and @Mathyland to send in actions! (Mathyland, you gave your stance and a potion action, but you still need to give an attack/ability action to perform)I can't exactly do anything in defensive stance right now...

...We can loot in Defensive Stance, right?Yup.
Stance: DefensiveYou can't block two turns in a row. Soory.

Hypothetically, could he try to scavenge Yvonne's corpse? After all, something might mysteriously happen that makes the potions there remain available (similar to attacking an already dead opponent). =DHmm... Hypothetically, I suppose so. Though it's also a bit different from attacking an enemy that would be killed in the same round as you wouldn't know that it'd die (because RNG). But anyway, I'd allow it.
Carniboar, which is a very clever name, whoever came up with it.I believe credit goes to @Rasdanation, who posted the initial lore here (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?topic=3595.msg74024#msg74024).
22(12+10) - Martin BreakshieldWAIT WE'RE ALLOWED TO SEE THESE??

13 - Wintermoot
10 - Hyrda
8 - Mountain Jaguar
5 - Mino (white)
3 - Dr. Taurus Valeria

Nah, I just never saw a reason to. Why?Agility potions and other player actions can change your place on the combat order, but if unless you know your specific Initiative score, it's a gamble.
snipWhen I was after Elb and Hydra in the turn order, but before Tau, and used my Call to Arms, in the status update afterwards it showed Elb and Hydra affected by Call to Arms, but not Tau. Is this meant to indicate merely that they haven't used the offensive buff yet, and everyone concerned had their initiative boosted in round 7, or that Tau had already had his initiative boosted the previous round?
Could we extend this round's end? I at least will probably be asleep until after the deadline, and Doc's question hasn't been answered. (Unless I converted the times badly, in which case nevermind).Sure, I'll extend the round another 24 hours.
So I may have been laboring under a mistaken idea about Call to Arms up until this point.I had been operating it using the former since that's what the description says, but thinking about it, the latter makes more sense since it wouldn't really make sense to give an attack buff one round and initiative buff the next. I'm going to change the descriptions of Call to Arms and Rout so that the initiative buff takes effect at the same time that the attack buff does rather than the initiative buffs occurring on the next round.

Stance: OffensiveJust so you know, you can target someone on the same turn that you transform into beast form.
Action: Beast Form
Target: N/A
Potion: N/A
Oh, wow. I didn't get that impression at all.Yeah I was surprised when Gerrick told me that when I played Druid. Perhaps the description of the ability should be updated to be more clear?
But since we're in 'ask questions about abilities' mode - can you switch back to human if you choose to while in Beast form?
@Gerrick if Hydra used Fortify Willpower on me, could I use Heal Other this turn?Yep.
Wait what do those comma'd numbers in the Combat
Order mean? The first number is obviously Initiative, but I'm confused on the second.
4. At the start of the match, the Host will perform a 1d20 roll for initiative for each player and a roll for each beast depending on their agility, determining the combat order for the first round. If there are equal initiative rolls, additional rolls will be used to determine who comes first. After the combat order is determined, the Host will post for all to see.The second number is the additional roll, which is solely to determine who comes first between those with equal initiatives. The first number is the actual initiative.
Since Tau will tie with Aethelia and Elb will tie with Wintermoot and the Wolf after the CTA, will you roll initiative for them again?Yes, I will roll for initiative for taulover and Elbbsas (just to determine their order between the tied initiatives), but I will still use the previous rolls for Aethelia, the Wolf, and the black Mino. If they tie with one of the existing rolls, I'll roll for those tied ones again.
You see, being able to view initiative values changes the gameplay quite a bit! :DSince Tau will tie with Aethelia and Elb will tie with Wintermoot and the Wolf after the CTA, will you roll initiative for them again?Yes, I will roll for initiative for taulover and Elbbsas (just to determine their order between the tied initiatives), but I will still use the previous rolls for Aethelia, the Wolf, and the black Mino. Dealing with intiative rolls... okay that's it, after all this is done I'm offering to do a DnD like RP of some sort, if anyone is interested and if I've been here long enough to be trusted not to leave Wintreath within a week of starting it.Please? I, for one, would be very interested. We have yet to have a proper DnD-like RP with dice and stuff. Anyone else who brought it up before thought that forums were not a conducive medium for DnD, so it's never happened.
You see, being able to view initiative values changes the gameplay quite a bit! :DYeah, all these questions are just why I didn't show initiatives. :P But if it's the will of the people, it's the will of the people.
I don't understand why people say that...when I was in Spiritus, Wuufu ran a wonderful DnD-inspired RP on the forums there which ran just fine. I think some people prefer voice or text chat for RPs like that, but there should be no reason that it couldn't work here. I'm always open to ideas for making the forums more conductive for anything we're doing, too.Dealing with intiative rolls... okay that's it, after all this is done I'm offering to do a DnD like RP of some sort, if anyone is interested and if I've been here long enough to be trusted not to leave Wintreath within a week of starting it.Please? Well, I hadn't mentioned it in 48 hours. XDI've one more exam before the suuuummeroh right you're a kiwi thanks for the reminder :P
I'm a fan of splitting the teams up when the wave ends. Better to at least trial it in this one before attempting to implement it in future ones.Seconding this.
Splitting the teams up as in having them fight separate beasts like we were talking about?Yep.
Stance: DefensiveYou can also do a regular action (attack, ability, block) aside from using a potion.
Potion: Health
...Just to double check. I thought that it was you *must* do an action each turn or be eaten by birds. Does Potion use count as an actiony enough action to avoid birds?Right, sorry, yeah you must perform a regular action to prevent an inactivity hit -- potion actions don't count there. I can see how the way I worded my response to Wintermoot made it sound optional, but it's not.
9 - Doc
2 - Sabertooth Lion
When exactly do the new beasts spawn? Is it at the end of a round or the start of a round? I'd assume the end but I'd like to double check. Also, am I correct in assuming the spawn at the end of this round, or have I badly miscounted?Correct, beasts spawn at the end of rounds. And yep, another wave will spawn at the end of this round.
Maybe for next time, you can have it so waves spawn when one side clears theirs. That would be good incentive to defeat the NPCs first. Then you don't need a static number and there's a little more reason to pay attention to the other team. That sounds like a good idea -- makes it so I don't have to try to figure out what number works best. The only problem I could see is that it could cause a snowball effect so that whichever team is the first to clear the first wave would likely have an advantage for the rest of the game, but I guess that could just be part of it.
Well, perhaps if that were the case, then the beasts of the previous wave could possibly be cleared when the new wave begins?Sorry, could you elaborate?
We get new potions next round, then?Using the newer rules from the teams division (see below), if you kill the rest of your beasts this round, then yes, you will get more potions.
If you defeat your wave early before a new one would spawn, then you'll have a chance to get potions from the Potion Man just as before -- so that's an incentive to kill it asap.
As in, perhaps the any remaining beasts in the other team would also be removed from the game.Well, perhaps if that were the case, then the beasts of the previous wave could possibly be cleared when the new wave begins?Sorry, could you elaborate?
Ah, so we only get potions if we kill them early? I thought that that statement just meant that we'd get the potions early.
As in, perhaps the any remaining beasts in the other team would also be removed from the game.Hmm, but then the team that's behind could just play defensive since their waves will just be removed when the other team kills theirs.
Ah, so we only get potions if we kill them early? I thought that that statement just meant that we'd get the potions early.Right, it's a reward for eliminating the wave early. I can see how you could read it like that, though.
