TextDecree 005: Regarding the Royal Family and the Nobility
Decree 005 of the Monarch of Wintreath
Regarding the Royal Family and the Nobility

Several months ago, I made a decree concerning familial houses, with the promise that families whose members have contributed to the region and been loyal to the Monarchy would be able to become a Noble House and join the regional nobility. However, that decree left questions unanswered and incomplete...just what is the nobility, how would one join it, and what would one get out of it? This decree answers that question and for now completes the system of familial houses. I'm also taking the opportunity to clearly define the titles of the Royal Family as well, so that if and when we adopt into it it will be clear to everybody what roles, if any, they will be taking on.

Familial houses have been one of the most popular things to take root in our region. I hope that this decree will whet our Citizens' appetites for more in that area.

Titles of the Royal Family
1) The titles of members of the Royal House shall be as follows:
1.1) The Monarch shall be the ruler and executive of Wintreath, as defined within the Fundamental Laws of Wintreath, and shall style themself as His/Her Most Royal Majesty, {name} of Wintreath, as defined in the Royal Title and Styles Act.
1.2) The Queen/Prince Consort shall be a title granted to wife or husband of the Monarch, and shall style themselves as Her/His Excellence, {name} of Wintreath, as defined in the Royal Title and Styles Act.
1.3) The Crown Prince/Princess shall be a title granted to a member of the royal family who has been named as either regent and/or heir presumptive to the throne of Wintreath, regardless of exact relation to the Monarch. The Crown Prince or Princess shall style themselves as His/Her Royal Highness, {name} of Wintreath, as defined in the Royal Title and Styles Act.
1.4) The Prince/Princess of Wintreath shall be a title granted to the children of the Monarch, and they shall style themselves as His/Her Highness, {name} of Wintreath.

The Nobility
2) The conference of noble titles shall be the prerogative of the Monarch, but generally based upon their contributions to the region, individual accomplishments, and loyalty to the region and to the Monarchy. Titles shall remain conferred unless revoked by the Monarch, regardless of Citizenship status.

3) The conference of associated awards, grants, and privileges to individual nobles shall remain the prerogative of the Monarch, with the consent of the Founder where necessary. Associated awards, grants, and privileges may be revoked by the Monarch and shall be voided in the event the noble is no longer a Citizen of Wintreath.

4) The ranks of the nobility shall be as follows:
4.1) The title of Archduke/Archduchess shall be granted to a person outside of the royal family who has been named as either regent or heir presumptive to the throne of Wintreath. This person shall style themselves as Highlord {name}, Archduke of Wintreath.
4.2) The title of Duke/Duchess may be granted by the Monarch, and shall style themselves as Lord {name}, Duke of {Wintreath or the name of their vassal region, if one was granted}. This title may come with the grant of a region which was founded by the Founder of Wintreath and holds a vassal relationship with Wintreath. If the individual is the patriarch or matriarch of a recognized familial house, the Monarch may confer upon the house a public forum area in the name of the city or area the family is based in.
4.3) The title of Count/Countess may be granted by the Monarch, and shall style themselves as Lord {name}, Count of {town or city}. If the individual is the patriarch or matriarch of a recognized familial house, the Monarch may confer upon the house a public forum area in the name of the city or area the family is based in.

The Titled Gentry
5) The title of Knight may be granted by the Monarch to an individual, who may style themselves as Sir {name} of Wintreath.

6) The Jarls of each Ministry shall have the authority to create and confer a single title and styling of their choosing to individuals for any reason within the scope of their ministry. These positions shall hold a rank equivalent to Knight, and may be revoked by either a Jarl of the same ministry whose Jarl granted it, or the Monarch.

Conferment of Titles
7) Upon the conference of a title of nobility or titled gentry, the person conferring the title shall make a public announcement specifying the reasons for conferring the title as well as any additional awards, grants, or privileges if the position allows for them as defined within this decree.

Amendment of this Decree
8) The Monarch may modify this decree at any time, and will notify the regional community of changes by creating a new post in this topic detailing the modifications made.

So decreed on this 254th day since Wintreath's founding,

Inric Nordrim Kestar (Wintermoot I of Wintreath)
Monarch of Wintreath
