  • Do you sing?
I certainly try. I keep yawning mid-phrase, which is irritating.

    Are you good at math?
Bah ha ha no. Sweet giblets no.
In all seriousness, I can't spell either. I've just been making use of Google to double check all my posts.

    Are you competitive?
I'm the worst kind of competetive. I'm the competitive that switches on and off. And IRL, people can never tell if I'm trying to go under the radar OR if I'm genuinely mucking about.
Case in point, I won a game of Risk on my third turn via looking at my mission card (get X amount of countries) and then dejectedly implied winning was impossible (while gesturing to how the two other players had gotten the Americas). A turn later, I "gave" myself the new goal of taking over Asia "Because I've never done that before." Two turns later I nabbed the (unreinforced) countries around Asia and won the game. Best part is I never lied, I just looked at my goal and went "Well-- Great. Thanks luck."
...I'm really proud of that game.

    Is New Zealand real?
What's New Zealand? I live in Middle Terabithia. =P

  • I mean...
    *puts on my pedantic hat*
Technically "The Haka" isn't one singular thing. There's some for weddings, funerals, and pretty much every occasion. They are absolutely not war dances, no matter what Google may say. I presume you are talking about "Ka Mate," which was lent to the All Blacks and most of our sports teams to use? Because I sure haven't learnt anything about their newer one, and it might be classed as "The Haka" too. =P

But ignoring semantics, yes, I have done "The Haka." It was back in primary school sooooo it was not done well, but it was done. Badly, in hindsight. I know more about the meaning behind the actions than the actions/words themselves.

  • THERE ARE MULTIPLE HAKAS!?
I remember learning it (or I should now say, 'The All-Blacks One' with the knowledge that there are multiple) waaaay back in secondary school because the rugby team quite rightly idolized the All-Blacks. To the extent we wound up doing it before maybe half of our matches, which probably violated some kind of IP laws because I remember reading an article about the All Blacks suing once, but hey I don't think they care about teenagers doing it.
But I say this because my coach, who was very, very Australian (but also very Scottish, so I guess Scottish-Australian), only ever referred to it as 'THE Haka'. I'd imagine he'd have known better...but then again I suppose not.

HECK YEAH THERE ARE MULTIPLE HAKA!
    Ka Mate
Kapa o Pango (turn on subtitles for English translation)
    Wedding
    Funeral
And yes, people would be very cross at the copy catting if you aren't from New Zealand, more for the principle of things than anything else. Personally, so long as you weren't half-hearted about it you're fine in my book. And you never call them "war dances."
Ewwww, Australia. =P Gosh darn Aussies. First the pavlova, then our fleg, then the kiwi, now the haka? What are they gonna try steal next! Our accent? =P

Edit: Thinking about it, asking if there are multiple haka is like asking if there are multiple songs.

Apparently, it's the other way around; the Ngāti Toa tribe tried to trademark the Ka Mate and, while unsuccessful, did eventually get the government to recognize ownership.

Huh. That didn't sound correct to me. I thought Ka Mate was perpetually on loan from the start... but double checking, I can't find anything that says that. I guess I just made an assumption that they asked for permission over forgiveness.
But I found another source than Wikipedia while double checking. Good news, Doc, your team is retroactively in the clear.
    Spoiler
    http://www.ajpark.com/ip-central/news-articles/2014/05/the-haka-ka-mate-attribution-act-the-right-of-attribution/
    Quote
This right does not apply to:
    • any performance of Ka Mate, including by a kapa haka group
    • any use for educational purposes
    • any work made for the purpose of criticism, review or news reporting
    • any communication of the above that is not for commercial purposes.
The Act does not, therefore, prevent performances by kapa haka groups, school groups, sports teams, or groups of intoxicated Kiwi in London.  It also does not in any way interfere with the use of Ka Mate by the All Blacks, as Ngāti Toa Rangatira and the New Zealand Rugby Union have an agreement to allow the performance of the haka, which reinforces the mutual respect both parties have for the work.

  • I'm scared of heights, so no bungee jumping for me! Rugby, I've played in school (touch and ripper). I haven't heard of gridiron before now. I used to play tennis, badminton, and underwater hockey a few years back, plus I usually go skiing each winter with my family, but team sports generally aren't my thing.

I've wanted to try zorbing, but when we had the opportunity we went to do something else that I can't recall off the top of my head.
