http://www.golf.com/tour-news/2017/08/01/president-donald-trump-relationship-golf-more-complicated-nowVery interesting character study of President Trump, via his favorite sport, golf. Some interesting things in the piece (much of this isn't new but is interesting when framed in the context of golf):
• Trump is very good at golf and is likely the best golfer to have been in the Oval Office
• Despite this, Trump still exaggerates his golf skills and abilities, often using multiple balls and bragging about the scores he gets from using such unofficial/casual practices
• The author argues that, by building golf courses, Trump is compensating for the fact that he's been rejected from elite private golf clubs, and gets to play at God by shaping the natural landscape itself
• Despite criticizing Obama for playing golf in office, Trump has spent part of 20%+ days in office so far playing golf
• In Indonesia, Trump is a business partner in two golf projects with fellow billionaire dabbling in politics, Hary Tanoesoedibjo, who, according to an exposé in
The Intercept, has ties to an ISIS-backed militia seeking to overthrow the current government
• Trump said that the "White House is a real dump," though the White House denies this occurrence
• As expected, thousands of lawsuits (both by Trump and against)
• Trump has close golf business ties to the KSA and UAE, both of which are not in the travel ban and which Trump continue to support diplomatically
• Trump's seaside golf clubs have cited climate change-based erosion as reason to build seawalls
