  • As much fun as the unpredictability of NS is (and it can definitely be incredibly fun), I'm sure I'm not the only one who can get frustrated by the random nature of when we get certain issues.

I'm wondering if we can come up with a new system to use, one that requires more skill and less luck.

Of course, my current RP wouldn't switch over to such a system, but it would be interesting if we ever decided to attempt a new stats-based RP.

Yeah.  It relies too much on available time.  For example, the maximum number of issues that one can have in queue is 5, and that translates to roughly 30 hours between log-in.  I was trying this consistently, but then I went dead for two weeks for finals and the difference is very visible.

I suppose we could come up with some equations to model the dissemination of technological progress throughout the world (think Japanese industrialisation as a consequence of western impact in the late 19th century).  But that would probably be hard, and you'd also have to argue if the dissemination of information is linear or exponential or something entirely different.

tl;dr:  Modelling the real world is hard

(I stole this format from tau, but who am I not to copy a great system? :-) )
