A friend of mine mines Ethereum. He bought a bunch of mining GPUs when they were still cheap, and made quite a lot mining. Those graphics cards are absurdly expensive now, so he actually doesn't recommend following that route anymore. And he's selling those GPUs now that he's going to go to college soon.

Ethereum is moving (may have done this already..) to using its Casper algorithm to assign bitcoins. This moves from a Proof of Work to a Proof of Stake consensus algorithm.. As I understand it, instead of being mined by performing cryptographically difficult tasks, users will be able to hold a stake in transactions made using the network and will be randomly rewarded based on how much stake they hold when transactions are made.

It's a pretty controversial move, but there are a lot of benefits (also some potential problems).. if Casper is successful, I think we can expect to see widespread adoption of Proof of Stake algorithms in the future. If not, then I estimate that you can expect the price of Ethereum currency to drop like a rock and the cost of the remaining currency to go up..

I think selling your GPUs now is the right option.

Nah.  Amusingly, I use it just to talk to and meet people in a non sexual setting most of the time (though obviously the occasional hookup happens).
