Greetings! I had first wanted to make sure Weissreich had no interest in doing this before running with it myself, but since we're coming on the start of the month and he's gone absent, I figured I'd at least start a discussion. Of course, he's free to take this back over if he wants when he returns since it was his initial idea.

Basically, do we want to have a monthly writing contest, and if so, what would our first theme be? Is there anyone that wants to commit to writing something up for the contest?

My participation will be purely dependant on the theme.

So I've just stumbled upon this. I'd actually rather have liked to try my hand at a short-ish story in the Dystopian or Post Apocalyptic (Dystopalyptic, anyone?) Categories.

I agree, @Laurentus, it does seem like fun.

If someone wants to run a writing contest, they should do it

I think a writing contest could be a great thing to do monthly.  Sort of prepare people for NaNoWriMo....

I wouldn't mind doing a monthly writing contest, especially since writing is quite a passion of mine.

One question though: how will it be decided? Would there be some sort of judge, or would the winner win through poll?

It could be either.  I think a panel is more fair, but with the amount of people, one person might be more realistic of a result.

I think monthly is too often. We barely have game/avatar/citizen of the month running every month as it is, and writing actually takes a lot more time. How about a trial run and then see what people think at the end of it, just so we have an idea of where we stand in terms of continuous participation.

Those are only because I post them myself.  If I can get my Thane to start helping out by doing those, then I'll have more time for the bigger stuff such as actual monthly contests.

You may want to do a pilot to see what the response is like and how often it should be ran...more involved contests haven't historically done well here.

I might try smaller to start with, like a poetry contest.  It's still involved, but less intensive than a full out writing contest
