Title: Stand for Election: Thane Special Election

Here you may nominate someone or stand for election to one of these thane positions in the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs! Only Citizens can be nominated for or stand for elections. Once you have stood for election, you must create a campaign topic before Thursday, January 1st that at a minimum provides the following information:

1) Why are you running for this position?
2) What do you aim to accomplish as thane?
3) What qualifications or experience do you have in the area that you are running in?
4) How do you plan to have the time to fulfill the duties of the position until the next election in March?

Once your campaign is posted, the Jarl over the position will vet and either approve or reject your candidacy based on your activity and contributions/history in the area that you are running in and I will either approve or reject your candidacy based on your fit within the current Cabinet. Nominations will be open until Thursday, January 1st, and the list of positions open are below:

Ministry of Culture, led by Gerrick
Thane of Roleplay (voted on by citizens in the RP Guild):
  • Represent the roleplay community in the Riksrad and regularly take part in Cabinet meetings and discussions;
  • Manage and moderate the forums in the Roleplayers' Gathering (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php#c15);
  • Encourage roleplay and facilitate its growth in the region;
  • Serve as the Patriarch of the RP Guild;
  • Work with the Council to manage the RP Guild and its roleplays by helping members start up and host roleplays, helping find a new host for a roleplay if the host goes inactive, and helping decide whether to reboot or archive inactive roleplays;
  • Welcome new citizens who may interested in roleplay, introduce them to the RP Guild and the Roleplayers' Gathering, accept new members into the RP Guild, and help out beginners with roleplaying;
  • Other duties determined by the RP Guild.
Thane of Werewolf (voted on by citizens who have participated in a regional game of Werewolf):
  • Represent the Werewolf community in the Riksrad and regularly take part in Cabinet meetings and discussions;
  • Manage and moderate the "Werewolf/Mafia" board (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?board=87.0);
  • Lead the Werewolf Taskforce (a small group to help with its duties) and appoint its members;
  • Start and host games or help others to start and host games of Werewolf;
  • Help out beginners and answer any questions they may have;
  • Keep the stickied threads updated;
  • Other duties determined by the Werewolf Taskforce;
  • Must ensure at least one game of Werewolf is started during its term.
LGBTQ Thane (voted on by LGBTQ citizens and citizens who have posted in "The Pride" board during the previous term):
  • Represent the LGBTQ community in the Riksrad and regularly take part in Cabinet meetings and discussions;
  • Manage and moderate "The Pride" board (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?board=153.0);
  • Facilitate the growth of the LGBTQ community in the region;
  • Welcome new citizens who may be LGBTQ and introduce them to the Pride and its community;
  • Foster inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ community and its allies;
  • Must start/post at least one new LGBTQ-related discussion or news article per month during its term.
Thane of Gaming (voted on by citizens who have participated in a regional non-forum game):
  • Represent the gaming community in the Riksrad and regularly take part in Cabinet meetings and discussions;
  • Manage and moderate the "Gaming Lounge" forum (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?board=100.0);
  • Facilitate the growth of the gaming community in the region;
  • Promote playing non-forum multiplayer games together as a region (such as Minecraft, Civilization, Town of Salem, Paradox games, and MMOs);
  • Welcome new citizens who may be interested in gaming and help them to join regional games;
  • Must set up at least one regional game night per month during its term.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Wintermoot
Thane of Embassy Dispatches (voted on by ambassadors and Orendi article writers from last term)
  • Manage our monthly dispatch, the Orendi, and ensure that a new edition is published monthly
  • Brainstorm new ideas to improve activity in our foreign embassies
  • Write materials to dispatch to foreign embassies, including Orendi articles
  • Assist event/activity hosts in creating compelling and informative invitations to events

Voting will begin on January 1st.

Hey, everybody. The Riksrad has decided to have elections for Thanes to help bring the community into the government and give more avenues for advancement. This will also help decentralize the Ministry of Culture so that the community may have more control and influence over several of Wintreath's cultural areas. As members of the Riksrad, Thanes have a direct voice in decisions and future plans made by the Cabinet, so if you're interested in that, stand for election!

Don't be intimidated by the duties listed for each Thane position -- basically just help bring activity in each of those areas of the forums and serve as a mod. And I'll be working with each of the Culture Thanes, so don't feel like you'll be alone in your positions.

For the RP Thane, I've decided on just having direct elections for the Thane/Patriarch, then I will work with the new Patriarch to appoint the members of the Council. This should be simpler than the other way I proposed as well as make the Council appointed rather than elected.

If you haven't read the Decree for Thane elections (http://wintreath.com/forums/index.php?topic=4903.0), terms last 3 months, but this first term will last until elections in March. This will allow for many opportunities to join the Riksrad as well as give people an out if they can't/don't want to serve another term.

While pleased to be nominated, I'm tragically ineligible for Thane of Gaming (having never done a regional non-forum game), and consider myself less qualified than either Ashton or Aragonn.

It is very exciting to see people interested in becoming thanes, especially those who have not been in government before in Wintreath. We now have candidates for 3 of the 5 positions, with two of the positions being competitive. :)

@Aragonn, @Pengu, @Laurentus, and @Ashton Mercer, don't forget to make a campaign in the next two days with the information requested in the OP! :)

Thank you for your candidacy...your campaign is one of the most compelling I've ever seen. I get a feel for what this would mean for you, and would love to see the LGBTQ take shape in the way you talk about, especially for trans people. We have a great history of trans people who have made their mark on and enriched our region and community, and I would love to see this continue. :)

One thing I though, how do you plan on having time to fulfill the duties of the position and the things that you campaign on (which I get the feeling go beyond the duties listed)?

Nominations are now closed. Now begins the vetting period for candidates that have stood for election and made a campaign. Voting will start on January 3rd.

@Ashton Mercer, @Aragonn, and @Pengu still need to create a campaign at this point. Candidates who have not created a campaign and been vetted when elections begin will be automatically disqualified.
