I recently thought of the idea of regional Town of Salem Games. If you don't know, Town of Salem (http://blankmediagames.com/TownOfSalem/) is a game that's basically like the game Mafia (or Werewolf), but has a lot more roles and complexity. It's not that difficult to learn how to play, however (although it's a lot easier after you play each role at least once so you know how all of them work). It may not be the easiest game to learn how to play well, but it's a heck of a lot easier than learning how to play Civ V well and requires less patience :P.
I thought of this idea because it is a free-to-play game that just requires an internet browser (which you probably have if you're reading this :P), and you can play it with a private group as well as a public match. It doesn't require lots of planning and hours of time to set up a game and play it, and it can be played any time with a group of any size. Although, a smaller group would require that we join a public game, but that's not too much of a problem. There's also a friends system, which would help.
Does anyone have any opinions on if this is a good idea or not?
P.S. If anybody decides to register for a Town of Salem account because of this thread, could you please put my username, "Mathness" in the "referrer" box? Also, at the beginning of each game, you pick a nickname that is the only name used for that entire game, so you don't need to have your forum name as your username.

You don't need to buy the game, the website lets you play for free and there's no difference between the two (except getting more coins to spend on cosmetics). Plus the "hyper robot players" are shuttled off into their own area called "Ranked" games. Plus there are sufficient players that you really can't have authority via age. Furthermore if we get at least 7 players, we would be able to play without strangers.
That said, there is a lot of trends and conventions that Town of Salem follows. The wiki goes into more details, but there are things like using acronyms for different roles ("surv" for Survivor, "invest" for Investigator, "vh" for Vampire Hunter...) and things like "spam click votes to denote you have been blackmailed" and "Copy-paste your will to prove yourself as your role" and (at least before it was updated) "if you are the Disguiser don't touch anything because this role is made of failure."
Finally, the community itself... personally, I find most are a little too "lol random" in humour and a little too "text speak" in dictation. It's been a long time since I played, so I don't know if it is better or worse, plus I seem to be faster at typing than other players so I may be (read: am definitely) holding them to higher standards. But I don't think anyone will report new players for losing and not knowing how-to, especially since when there are reports the transcript of the game is looked at to determine if the reporting was justified.
Personally, I'd advise watching some YouTube videos and see if you would want to play before investing anything into it. (I recommend Minx or the Derp Crew, since a lot of YouTubers don't play the game properly and instead spend time mucking around).
