This is the OOC discussion thread for the Wintrean Union, which, along with the Factbooks thread, I've neglected to start for too long. Anyway, a couple of things I was wanting to clear up:
All the things in the subforum "The Wonderful World of Wintreath" are considered canon in this RP, since our meeting place for our delegates is located on the continent Weiss created (which is unseen on our map but located on the south pole). The center for the Wintreath Union will be located in or near Breithern, since I feel going further inland would prove too cold to our citizens since they're not as acclimated to the unearthly cold. To account for the technological and cultural differences between the people established in Weiss's thread and our RP, we can just say that the people of the continent (which we can refer to as Old Wintreath) are the ancestors of all life on the planet, and nowadays relations are fairly distant but there is a mutual respect.
Also, the focus of the RP, since I feel it's a pretty wide scope. I, for one, love relatively mundane things - writing laws and debating them, all that fun stuff. I know that's not to everyone's liking though, which is why I had the "Are there any internal conflicts/wars in your nation?" section in the applications. My vision for the RP is a mixture of legislative drama and story arcs revolving around international intervention in these wars/crises. I'm not too confident on the legislative parts, though; if it bores others too much, I may scrap it altogether. That being said, I feel it would be a good way to address the problem other RPs have of the RPs moving too quickly for people to keep up with. When life is busy, the RP can focus on laws and stuff; when people are more free, the more action-filled conflicts can begin.
Also, I should mention that our planet is cooled down a few degrees from Earth to reflect the more wintry theme of the region. This was briefly mentioned in the Regional Map Discussion, but I don't think I ever made it entirely clear. You can still have tropical climates and all that stuff, it'll probably just be slightly colder than their counterparts on Earth.

Oh, the idea was that the Wintrean Union was just now being formed in the modern day. That idea does have plenty of potential, though - what do you mean by that? A history of the organization itself and its founding, or international incidents between nations in premodern times? The latter could have plenty of RP potential even without the WU in existence.

It sounds like an interesting idea, I'll keep it in mind. At the moment, I have too many other things going on to place a whole ton of focus on it, but we can discuss this idea further over PM if you like. But yeah, this sounds like a fun idea.

If we were talking civ-wise, what era is this in? I was thinking more of modern era where infantry are the most common unit, and computers have been invented but the internet does not exist yet.

Yeah, but not too far into the future. Somewhat more advanced than Earth technology, but nothing approaching, say, the tech level in From The Ashes.

I wish I had a good excuse, but I just ended up in a 10-hour Skype call last night playing Mount & Blade and Civ5 and completely forgot about it. :P

Also, just to go over the thread structure for this:
The main IC thread (the one I'm about to post) is where the delegates meet up and discuss things. Whenever we decide to ivtervene in conflicts or stuff like that, new threads will probably be created to keep things from getting cluttered.

I think it's a character-nation RP merge. The main IC thread is character based (though I think Bodobol said that we can have other supporting characters), while Bodobol's now also added the option to have other conflicts play out on the international scale.

Not right away; I'll start the thread in a way that allows the delegates to voice concerns, then we'll convene on taking action. If we elect to do so, the thread for that will be started.
Apologies again for delays; I've been studying for next semester, doing holiday stuff, and my current draft for the OP is stopped midsentence atm because my perfectionism interfered over something minor and I ended up getting frustrated and putting it to the side for a bit. :P

Yeah, Bodobol, the DM for this rp, hasn't be active very much recently, so we're still kinda waiting to hear from him.

That's partly my fault, because despite saying multiple times that I would put my factbook up, I haven't gotten around to writing it (I actually did once, but then the page decided to refresh, making me lose my progress; I quickly gave up for a while thereafter.)

Yes it does, and it means this is the RP I'm looking for. I've submitted my application - I hope this RP gets going again, it looks like it hasn't been active in some time. Thanks for your help, and thanks for the welcome :)

It looks like that Roleplay takes before this one. Since the lore in the Geography of Wintreath says it will be the first meeting. Though this still could lead to complications.

It might also be good to set up some new basic ground rules to make sure everybody is on the same page of what the rp entails.

My personal suggestion would be to wait until a clear course of action is decided. Just my advice.

Hey guys just wanted to say that i wont be able to be part of this wintrean union roleplay anymore for right now. I just cant commit to an online roleplay right now, i need to concentrate on irl for a little while. Dont worry i will still be involved with nationstates and wintreath, just not with things i need to keep updated with.
Give me a month or two and i can probably get back to roleplaying on this site.

To answer the first question, I'm pretty sure he declared himself one. As for another question, I'm not sure what you mean by having a nation provide a speaker. Would the Union not just elect a Speaker out of their own delegate body? That is, is the Speaker not one of the delegates? All I had heard of the matter is that "staff of the Wintrean Union must renounce their home citizenship". But that doesn't prevent the Speaker from also being a delegate.

Thing is, what I need from the Speaker is 3 things.
First, I control them.
Second, they are non-partisan.
Third, I must understand their character.
If we pick a current delegate, one of three things will happen.
1) I take control of the character and whoever the delegate was controlled by has to get a new delegate.
2)They become Speaker and Delegate and I cannot control them.
3)They just become Speaker and I also lose control.
All 3 outcomes are not particularly desirable.

I was probably going to vote for Arsin as the only non-McAllen candidate, but knowing my delegate's tendency to be a bit of a pushover, will at least try to get along with the new Speaker, and could have possibly been convinced to vote for him "if necessary". My delegate ought to form an amicable relationship with the new Speaker, despite the initial claims of "arrogance". If anything, the fact that our countries border each other may prove advantageous, even though Mr. McAllen isn't truly a Northern representative anymore.

Hm... I might make my ethnic rebel groups a bit more communistic if that's the case. Nothing like some good old-fashioned proxy civil class wars fueled by ethnic tension. :P

No, you didn't spell it wrong. This system just doesn't like apostrophes. I learned that the hard way when I was trying to write the name of a bill containing one and it didn't save. I changed it from the possessive to a parenthetical, but that doesn't work with mentions, unfortunately.

Yes I do use a modified Mando'a, it is Yaim Rusurs native language, and I sort of modernized it to work in a real life function, for example adding words that exist today, but not in Mando'a

By the way, I've changed/ shortened my name to just Lapoc, since Literally a Pile of Clay is too long and not very in tone for an RP. Hope you don't mind. I was also thinking about changing to The Clayian Republic, which sounds better?

My Uniforms are based on the Mandalorians from Star wars, with some alterations, and we have a difference between the military armor and the armor that is mandatory to wear at all times at home, as those can be heavily customized, where the military needs some form of camouflage. At some point I intend to post either on this or somewhere the images of all my nations uniforms, weapons, armored vehicles, aircraft, and naval craft.

Yaim Rusurian nuclear weapons that we have in stock are very tightly secured, but once they become obsolete or break down we sell them just like any other piece of equipment, though for missiles we do have remote shutdowns for them, basically self destruct sequences that decimate the missile but do not create the correct explosion to detonate the bomb, such as the very specific waves that detonate a plutonium warhead, or the fission explosion required to trigger a hydrogen bomb. In the case of our most common warhead, Uranium core, the missile is blown up in a way that the uranium pieces might be set off (they are detonated by smashing 2 chunks into each other at high speeds with no room for it to spread out) but the core would open and thus the two chunks would not reach a critical mass and simply spread out in the air. This is only partially flawed because the remains of each missile create little mini Chernobyl's wherever they land but hey, it's better than a full on detonation.
